Youth Worker - Sports

Role overview

This position is focused on creating and running an engaging, accessible, and inclusive activity programme for young people aged 7 to 25 with additional needs. The successful candidate will shape a strong offer that enables every young person to take part in activities they choose and can meaningfully access.

Leadership and team support

You will manage a group of support workers, youth workers, and volunteers, giving them clear direction, coaching, and practical day-to-day guidance. A key part of the role is making sure the team can deliver high-quality sessions, including support for more complex needs such as personal care and medication assistance, in a safe and effective way.

Programme delivery

You will take ownership of the Youth Zone’s Springboard sessions, which run on Sunday mornings for junior and senior members. These sessions must be carefully planned, inclusive, and adapted to different support needs. You will also coordinate weekday 1:2:1 support sessions, including one junior and one senior session, ensuring the right staffing, preparation, and delivery for each young person’s individual needs.

Facilities, inclusion, and quality

The role includes making effective use of the venue’s facilities and resources to build a safe, welcoming, and stimulating environment. The aim is to strengthen young people’s confidence, independence, and ability to join in with purposeful activities. You will also champion inclusive practice across the Youth Zone and the wider team, helping maintain high standards and driving ongoing improvement in SEND provision.

Additional programmes and events

You will coordinate and deliver the Aspire programme, a specialist holiday club for young people with SEND delivered in partnership with Warrington Borough Council. This work spans the Youth Zone and satellite venues, and all activity must align with regulatory requirements and recognised best practice. From time to time, you will also help lead annual events, working alongside colleagues to deliver successful occasions that enhance the profile of Warrington Youth Zone and support its wider aims.
