Job description
About the role
MacKillop Family Services is hiring committed people for residential care work in its Out of Home Care programs. The role supports children and young people with complex needs through therapeutic and residential care, with several positions available and an immediate start on offer.
Based across the Barwon region, this opportunity sits within the Out-of-Home Care Program and reports to the Residential House Supervisor. The work is focused on providing a safe, stable, and encouraging environment where young people can develop practical life skills and confidence.
What you will do
You will support young people in care by offering safe accommodation, consistent boundaries, and emotionally steady support. The role calls for a person who can approach young people with empathy, openness, and a non-judgmental attitude, while helping maintain a sense of safety and routine.
Selection criteria
To be considered, you should hold a Certificate IV in Child, Youth and Family Intervention. Applicants with comparable qualifications such as a Diploma of Community Services, Social Work, or another relevant tertiary qualification are also encouraged to apply.
You should have a strong interest in the wellbeing of young people, the ability to demonstrate empathy, and the emotional self-control needed to set and uphold clear, consistent boundaries.
Other information
The position is described as part-time and casual in the source details, although the role is also marked full-time and onsite in the listing metadata. Interested applicants are encouraged to review the position description for the complete list of duties.
For further details, contact Shawit Tasaw at shawit.tasaw@mackillop.org.au.
Our offer
The role comes with a competitive hourly rate under SCHADS Award Level 2-3, depending on your qualification and experience. Salary packaging is available up to $18,550 per year, which may help reduce tax payable.
Additional benefits include paid industry-specific training such as Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI), Sanctuary, and cultural awareness training, plus access to Fitness Passport, an Employee Assistance Program, and regular supportive meetings with your manager.
MacKillop also operates as a Sanctuary Organisation, using a whole-of-organisation framework designed to create a safe environment, support healing, and help people respond effectively to stress and trauma.
Requirements
Applicants must have a valid driver’s licence, a satisfactory criminal history check, a First Aid certificate with at least 6 months’ validity, a current Employee Working with Children Check, and a current NDIS Workers Screening Check for risk-assessed/client-facing roles. MacKillop can assist successful candidates with the NDIS application.
MacKillop pays for the criminal history check.
Commitment to inclusion
MacKillop Family Services values diversity and is committed to safe, fair, and respectful treatment for all people. The organisation welcomes people of all backgrounds and identities, and it aims to remain culturally safe and culturally competent for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, young people, families, and communities. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are strongly encouraged to apply.
Shortlisting begins immediately, so early applications are encouraged.
