Youth Worker

About the Role

The Queensland Government is dedicated to ensuring the safety of local communities with the goal of providing lives free from violence and fear. The department focuses on addressing the root causes of youth crime, managing serious repeat offenders, and ensuring that support systems meet and anticipate the needs of victims. This involves early intervention, statutory Youth Justice, and detention services designed to hold young offenders accountable and assist them in becoming responsible community members. Additionally, trauma-informed care and resources are offered to victims to aid recovery and to ensure their voices are heard and respected.

Key Responsibilities

• Exhibit cultural competence and/or a willingness to develop it to foster an inclusive environment aligned with the Human Rights Act 2019, supporting programs and partnerships that uphold cultural connections for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
• Implement various elements of core programs independently or collaboratively to support the Service Response Plan created by Youth Justice Caseworkers.
• Supervise and support young people, providing high-quality services compliant with relevant legislation, statutory delegations, department policies, and best practices.
• Engage and negotiate with government agencies, community groups, service providers, and families to enhance young people's access to services and support, following their service response plans.
• Provide culturally sensitive supervision and family support to help young people comply with bail and court orders and facilitate community reintegration as outlined in their service plans.
• Work effectively within a multidisciplinary team, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to achieve successful casework and management outcomes.
• Keep up-to-date with relevant knowledge and actively participate in professional development opportunities.
• Maintain clear and accessible case records in line with departmental case management standards to aid planning and review processes, attending related meetings as necessary.
• Assist coordinators in creating weekly work schedules for young people under supervision or bail programs, based on their service plans.
• Regularly inspect program sites and equipment to ensure all safety standards are met and activities proceed safely.
• Take part in training to enhance skills for delivering youth justice services that adhere to current best practices.
