About the role
Ruah is looking for compassionate and capable Youth Suicide Counsellors to join its Mental Health & Wellness team in Daglish, Western Australia. In this frontline position, you will support young people dealing with suicidal thoughts and mental health concerns through therapeutic counselling, crisis intervention, suicide risk assessment, case management and coordinated support.
You will work alongside the Clinical Team Lead, peer workers and other support staff to deliver trauma-informed, person-centred care that strengthens safety, recovery and wellbeing. The role involves forming trusted relationships with young people, completing risk and safety planning, and linking clients with the services they need.
Key areas of work
- Provide counselling and case management support to young people.
- Complete suicide risk assessments and develop safety plans.
- Advocate for young people and coordinate wraparound supports.
Work pattern
This is a casual role operating within a 24/7 service environment. Shifts include weekdays, weekends and awake night shifts.
Essential requirements
- Proven experience supporting young people with complex needs, including mental health concerns, trauma and suicidal ideation.
- Ability to deliver therapeutic counselling, assess risk and create safety plans.
- Strong people skills and the capacity to build trust with young people and their support networks.
- Experience in case management and preparing goal-focused support plans.
- Well-developed written communication skills, including reporting and case notes.
- Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
- Willingness and availability to work on a 24/7 roster, including night shifts.
Desirable background
- Experience in community services, youth work or mental health settings.
- A relevant qualification in counselling, psychology, social work or a related discipline.
- Experience using trauma-informed and recovery-oriented approaches.
- Understanding of diversity, inclusion and culturally safe practice.
