About the Role
This is a permanent full-time position based in Hamilton under the Youth Justice pathway, designed for tamariki and rangatahi who have committed or are alleged to have committed an offence. The role aims to offer them a real chance to improve their lives without acquiring a criminal record, supporting positive progress.
As a Youth Justice Social Worker, you will collaborate closely with rangatahi, their whānau, police, youth advocates, and vital government and community organizations to tackle underlying issues leading to offending at an early stage, thereby reducing lifelong offending risks.

Candidate Attributes and Experience
- Genuine passion for youth engagement and relationship-building to foster positive outcomes.
- Possession of a Social Work Qualification, full registration, and current Annual Practising Certificate registered with the New Zealand Social Worker Registration Board.
- Strong skills in building professional relationships.
- Proficiency in both written and verbal communication, including delivering professional feedback to courts.
- Commitment to bicultural practices and culturally responsive approaches, demonstrating good knowledge of Tikanga Māori and Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
- Understanding of Oranga Tamariki Act and Youth Justice frameworks.
- Demonstrated experience in social work pertaining to child protection and familiarity with New Zealand legislation safeguarding children and young people.
- A full, clean New Zealand driver's licence.
