About the Role

Oranga Tamariki is seeking dedicated Allied Support Workers to join our teams in either Napier or Hastings on a permanent, full-time basis. These positions are designed to provide dependable operational support to frontline Social Work teams, helping to meet ongoing service demands and strengthen team capacity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Offer regional support in line with operational priorities, including travel within and occasionally beyond the region.
  • Assist with caregiver recruitment initiatives, community engagement, and outreach activities.
  • Coordinate caregiver training sessions and support learning development programs.
  • Help with caregiver assessments, preparation, support planning, and provision of ongoing support.
  • Support placement and matching efforts by gathering relevant information, creating caregiver profiles, and managing placement coordination.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with caregivers, whānau, community groups, and internal partners.
  • Occasionally work outside standard business hours when required.

Candidate Profile

This role involves safety-critical, high-trust work with children requiring sound judgment, emotional strength, and reliability. Candidates should have experience working within communities assisting people in need, particularly involving Māori and/or Pasifika cultures. The ability to handle emotional situations empathetically and communicate effectively is essential.

  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Capability to remain composed and professional under emotional or stressful circumstances.
  • Cultural awareness, especially regarding tikanga Māori and Pacific peoples’ customs.
  • Proficiency in protecting sensitive and confidential information.
  • Commitment to upholding the principles of Te Tiriti ō Waitangi in practice.
  • Intermediate skills with Microsoft Office applications.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • A recognized qualification in Social Services is preferred but not mandatory.
  • A valid and clean full driver’s license is required, along with a willingness to drive Ministry vehicles. Historical convictions may be considered individually.

Compensation and Benefits
