Overview

As a Workplace Health & Safety Specialist based in St. Thomas, Ontario, you will play a pivotal role in advancing safety culture and protecting employees by implementing innovative safety measures and fostering a productive, safety-first environment.

Key Responsibilities

You will lead safety programs using data-driven approaches, conduct daily audits and risk assessments, and drive injury prevention solutions. This role includes delivering impactful training sessions, advocating for associate welfare, building strong internal relationships to promote safety best practices, and using safety data to influence positive organizational change.

Physical and Work Environment Demands

  • Regularly lifting up to 49 pounds and frequent physical movements such as pushing, pulling, squatting, bending, and reaching
  • Standing or walking for shifts lasting up to 12 hours
  • Working in variable noise levels and diverse temperature conditions, including outdoor loading areas
  • Frequent stair climbing and descending where applicable
  • Flexibility to work shifts including days, nights, and weekends

Basic Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Familiarity with OSHA regulations, particularly 29 CFR 1910
  • At least one year of experience in an Environmental Health & Safety related field OR a bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline OR six months of safety-related experience at Amazon
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential workplace security or personnel matters

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in managing worker's compensation cases
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a safety-focused field preferred
  • Strong skills in communication, collaboration, analytical thinking, judgment, and customer service orientation
  • Leadership experience with ability to review accident data and conduct job hazard analyses
  • Certifications in First Aid and CPR and experience in emergency response
