Job description

About the Role

Operations form the backbone of Amazon, with reliability playing a key role in streamlining processes. The Reliability Maintenance and Engineering (RME) team is tasked with keeping all operational equipment running smoothly, covering everything from printers to highly automated sortation systems.

As the Refrigeration Reliability Manager, you will oversee the performance and upkeep of a growing fleet of refrigeration equipment across Amazon’s expanding European market. Serving as the technical authority on commercial refrigeration, you will lead efforts to standardize, improve system reliability, and maintain technical standards while ensuring compliance with food safety. Your leadership will be critical in advancing Amazon RME towards achieving world-class maintenance standards in refrigeration operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement innovative projects delivering enhanced reliability, ergonomic improvements, cost savings, and resource efficiency on a Europe-wide scale.
  • Drive increased standardization across refrigeration systems and influence design standards for future delivery stations.
  • Optimize current refrigeration equipment and processes while supporting new equipment and process rollouts from concept through deployment.
  • Prepare and lead project documentation, business case reviews, and technical reports for senior leadership.
  • Communicate regularly with senior management about program status and results.
  • Develop and implement long-term strategic roadmaps for refrigeration systems.
  • Enforce standards endorsed by the EU Engineering team and champion continuous improvement initiatives targeting safety enhancements and equipment availability, with emphasis on predictive and preventive maintenance.

Typical Workday

Your daily activities will be dynamic, including visits to delivery stations to engage with RME colleagues, collaborating on design standards for next-generation refrigeration systems, working on new material handling equipment concepts to improve system reliability, and managing deployment projects across multiple delivery stations. You will coordinate with diverse internal teams such as Operations, Process Improvement, Health and Safety, Ergonomics, Finance, Procurement, Central and Field Reliability, as well as external vendors to develop and deploy refrigeration equipment and processes. This role requires strong stakeholder management skills, autonomy, comfort with ambiguity, and the ability to provide detailed technical and business reporting to project sponsors and senior leadership.

About the Team

Amazon Logistics aspires to build a world-leading last-mile delivery operation, striving to exceed customer expectations by delivering orders quickly, accurately, and cost-effectively. The Reliability Maintenance Engineering team ensures equipment across delivery stations operates at peak performance. This highly technical and collaborative team focuses on reducing downtime through continuous improvement and standardization.

Location Flexibility

This position can be based flexibly at any Amazon Logistics delivery station or corporate office within Europe.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent technical internship experience.

  • Proficiency in English—able to read, write, and comprehend directions effectively.
  • Experience with complex automated material handling equipment, packaging technologies, robotics, and high-speed manufacturing systems.
  • Demonstrated project management experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years managing commercial refrigeration systems.
  • Willingness to work flexible schedules including weekends, nights, and holidays.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in engineering, mechanical, operations, supply chain, business administration, or related STEM field.
  • Familiarity with Lean Management, Six Sigma, or comparable operational engineering methodologies.
  • Prior experience with Amazon or its subsidiaries preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of specialized engineering and facilities equipment within Amazon Logistics, including maintenance and safety procedures.
  • Experience working with PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) based control systems.
