Job description
Role overview
This position is for a Site Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) Officer at a delivery station. The role focuses on partnering with the site operations team to implement safety policies, meet local and regional compliance requirements, and improve the overall safety and health conditions for associates.
The officer will use lean methods and continuous improvement practices such as kaizens to reduce operational, ergonomic, and safety risks. The role requires strong communication skills, the ability to build trust with operations leaders, and the judgment to use risk assessments and safety data to drive change.
The WHS Officer will be part of the site WHS team, reporting to the Site WHS Manager, and must be willing to work in shifts.
Key responsibilities
- Support the site in following Amazon WHS standards, policies, and applicable regulations.
- Review site performance against published safety requirements and create action plans to close identified gaps.
- Deliver assigned projects to Operations on time and with strong quality.
- Study safety metrics and weekly/monthly incident trends to determine where risk is highest and resources are most needed.
- Ensure incidents are properly investigated and that corrective and preventive actions are closed effectively.
- Carry out regular safety audits to detect unsafe equipment, processes, or non-compliance at the site.
- Introduce measures that reduce exposure to risks and help prevent injuries.
- Check record-keeping practices so that entries align with global WHS standards and local rules.
- Audit workplace organization and associate behavior to ensure training, scoring, and auditing methods remain accurate and consistent.
- Coach and support Safety Associates in the assigned facility during peak periods.
- Spend time on the delivery station floor, gather feedback from safety teams, associates, and leaders, and keep everyone updated on progress and resolution of improvement actions.
- Train and guide Operations Leaders on WHS policies and help site teams adopt safety standards.
Requirements
- Fluency in speaking, reading, and writing English.
- Previous experience in a workplace health and safety-related role.
- Bachelor's degree or an equivalent qualification.
- Good knowledge of safety programs, environmental safety, and ergonomic risks.
- Strong understanding of local and regional regulations as well as company policies.
- Ability to communicate clearly and consistently, both orally and in writing.
- Willingness to work in shifts.
Preferred qualifications
- NEBOSH certification or IOSH certification.
