Job description

Role overview

The Site Safety Officer will partner with the operations team at a fulfillment center to put safety policies into practice and maintain compliance with all relevant local and regional regulations. The role focuses on using lean methods and continuous-improvement practices to reduce ergonomic and conditional risks, helping create a safe and healthy environment for associates.

This position also requires the ability to build trust with operations leaders, influence change through strong risk analysis, and communicate clearly and consistently in both spoken and written forms. The officer will train operations leaders on company safety standards, help site teams integrate those standards, and apply safety, environmental, and ergonomic expertise to improve overall site performance.

Key responsibilities

  • Support site teams in following all Amazon safety policies and relevant compliance requirements.
  • Track each site’s performance against published safety standards and create corrective action plans for any gaps.
  • Deliver projects to operations on schedule and with the expected quality.
  • Review safety data, including weekly and monthly incident patterns, to identify trends and direct resources toward higher-risk areas.
  • Carry out regular safety audits to uncover unsafe equipment or processes and implement controls that reduce exposure and prevent injuries across fulfillment centers.
  • Review recordkeeping practices and entries in the global safety database to confirm alignment with global standards and local laws.
  • Examine workplace organization and associate behavior to verify that training, auditing, and scoring methods remain accurate and consistent.
  • Lead, support, and mentor Safety Associates within the assigned fulfillment center.
  • Spend time at fulfillment centers gathering feedback from safety teams, associates, and leaders, and keep communication open on progress and resolution of improvement actions.
  • Check the quality, delivery, and effectiveness of all mandatory safety training, including trainer qualifications.

Requirements

  • Background in an environmental health and safety (EHS) related field.
  • Hands-on experience applying lean principles and process-improvement methods in an operational setting.
  • At least 1 year of growing responsibility in EHS, environmental programs, or work health and safety.
  • Ability to work a 5-day schedule, with 2 weekly off days that may change based on shift rotation and business requirements in a 7-day operating environment.

Preferred qualifications

  • Master’s degree in industrial or manufacturing engineering.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office tools such as Excel, Word, SharePoint, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience in supply chain or logistics environments.
