Job description
About Nevoya
Nevoya is a next-generation electric trucking carrier serving North America. The company is reworking freight logistics through AI-driven operations and a strong customer-first approach. It develops and runs its own technology to provide zero-emissions carrier services to Fortune 500 shippers, aiming to outperform traditional diesel carriers on both economics and service. Nevoya operates in California and Texas and is supported by well-known investors such as Lowercarbon Capital.
About the Role
Nevoya is expanding quickly and is looking for a leader who can bring order, clarity, and strong execution to the functions that keep the business operating smoothly. In this role, you will report directly to the CEO and take ownership of the internal business functions that help the company move fast without losing control.
The position covers HR, finance, payroll, legal, compliance, and executive support. It is a high-accountability role at the intersection of strategy and execution, and you will be the person the leadership team relies on when something needs to be built, repaired, or scaled.
This is not a strategy-only role. You will inherit some people and processes, but you will also be expected to identify what is missing and create it. The ideal candidate is someone who has operated across several functions at once, acts quickly, and has the organizational discipline to keep a fast-moving company stable.
What You'll Do
- Take ownership of the daily operations across HR, finance, payroll, legal, and executive support.
- Act as a trusted partner to the CEO on organizational health, internal operations, and resource decisions.
- Lead and grow a cross-functional team across several disciplines as the company adds headcount.
- Oversee payroll to ensure accuracy, compliance, and a positive employee experience.
- Support financial operations such as budget monitoring, vendor coordination, and internal reporting.
- Work directly with financial data, including budgets, forecasts, and detailed line items, rather than depending only on others to interpret it.
- Own financial reporting and analysis and use the numbers to identify issues and support decisions.
- Stay close to day-to-day finance work so that important details are not missed.
- Lead people operations, including onboarding, benefits administration, HR policies, and regulatory compliance.
- Coordinate with outside legal counsel on contracts, employment matters, regulatory questions, and risk or litigation matters.
- Work with legal partners to help the business stay ahead of compliance expectations, especially in freight and transportation.
- Support executive assistants so leadership time is protected and daily logistics run smoothly.
- Create and improve internal systems and workflows that can grow with the company.
- Spot operational gaps early and put practical fixes in place before they become larger problems.
- Serve as the escalation point for operational issues that cut across departments.
- Work with department leaders to ensure operational needs are met and resources are allocated effectively.
What You'll Bring
- Proven success leading or overseeing several business functions at the same time, including at least two of the following: HR, finance, or operations.
- Strong leadership experience managing and developing teams across different disciplines.
- The ability to operate both strategically and tactically without losing momentum.
- Comfort working in a startup or other high-growth setting where priorities change often and ambiguity is common.
- A solid grasp of financial fundamentals and the judgment to notice when the numbers do not make sense.
- Willingness to work directly with budgets, forecasts, and financial reporting.
- Working knowledge of employment law, compliance needs, and the basics of contract management.
- Experience handling outside legal counsel and coordinating with multiple external partners.
- Strong judgment and decision-making ability, especially when information is incomplete or deadlines are tight.
- Clear communication skills and the ability to work well with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience creating or improving internal systems and processes from scratch.
- Familiarity with tools such as Rippling, Gusto, or similar HR, payroll, and finance platforms.
Desired Experience
- Previous experience at a Series A, Series B, or Series C startup, especially during a period of rapid hiring.
- Operations experience in logistics, transportation, or a hardware-oriented company.
- Experience working with or overseeing in-house legal counsel or outside legal partners.
- Experience supporting an executive support function or managing executive assistants.
Equal Opportunity & Inclusion
Nevoya says it values diverse teams and is committed to equal opportunity. The company considers qualified applicants regardless of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, or any other protected characteristic.
Additional Information
Candidates who are excited about the mission but do not match every qualification are still encouraged to apply. If you have questions, the company directs inquiries to its Recruiting Team at careers@nevoya.com.
