Job description
About LOVB
League One Volleyball (LOVB) is building a new future for women’s sports. Founded in 2019, it operates as a mission-driven sports performance, training, and media organization focused on advancing volleyball in the United States and creating opportunities for the next generation of female athletes.
The volleyball landscape in the U.S. is especially significant: the sport has earned historic Olympic success across indoor, beach, and sitting volleyball, is the most-played girls’ youth sport, and has tens of millions of current and former players. It is also a female-majority sport, yet it has historically received far less attention from sports investors, brands, and media than other major sports.
LOVB is addressing that gap by building a strong club platform, expanding into a top professional league, and developing a connected digital ecosystem across the organization. The role sits within a mission-focused team that values execution, creativity, and building something transformative for volleyball and women’s sports.
Role Overview
The Vice President of Facilities and Real Estate will shape and run LOVB’s national club facility portfolio. The position is responsible for delivering safe, high-quality, and brand-consistent environments for athletes while guiding capital planning, real estate strategy, and construction across multiple locations. This leader will work closely with Club, Pro, Finance, and Executive teams to support growth, acquisitions, and day-to-day operations.
The role requires strong strategic thinking, financial discipline, and the ability to manage complex initiatives across functions. It is a remote, U.S.-based position with periodic travel for site visits and business events.
Key Responsibilities
- Set and drive the long-range facility strategy for LOVB Clubs so it aligns with growth plans, athlete experience priorities, and market expansion.
- Create and uphold nationwide facility standards covering safety, cleanliness, brand alignment, and operating quality across every club site.
- Develop a multi-year capital investment roadmap and oversee roughly $7–10M in annual capital spending with FP&A support.
- Maintain a 24–36 month pipeline of planned facility work, including renovations, relocations, and new construction.
- Assess the return on investment and broader business value of capital projects to ensure they support financial and operational objectives.
- Direct site selection planning and lease negotiations, working with brokers and internal partners to secure suitable facilities.
- Define consistent expectations for lease terms, renewals, and compliance across all markets.
- Support due diligence and operational integration for facilities tied to newly acquired clubs.
- Lead major construction and development initiatives, including new builds and renovation projects above $500K.
- Manage and negotiate with architects, designers, and general contractors to keep projects aligned with scope, timing, and budget.
- Ensure capital projects are completed on schedule, within budget, and to LOVB’s standards for quality.
- Provide executive leadership with clear updates on project health, risks, and key decisions.
- Work with Pro teams to define and support practice-facility requirements, including shared or co-located environments.
- Coordinate across departments so facilities meet both club and professional program needs.
- Oversee the systems and workflows used to handle maintenance, repairs, and facility-related issue resolution across the club network.
- Build scalable operating processes for facility reporting, administration, and issue escalation.
- Lead, coach, and develop the Facilities team, including direct oversight of a Director-level leader.
- Create the structure, tools, and processes needed to support a growing national footprint.
Required Skills and Experience
- Strong background in facilities management, real estate, and capital project delivery in multi-location organizations.
- Solid financial judgment, including experience managing large capital budgets and investment planning.
- Proven capability in negotiating leases, vendor agreements, and construction contracts.
- Strategic mindset with the ability to convert long-term goals into practical plans and measurable results.
- Excellent project management skills with the ability to handle multiple large initiatives at once.
- Demonstrated leadership experience, including mentoring and developing senior-level team members.
- Clear and effective communication skills for working with executives, operators, and external partners.
- Comfort balancing big-picture planning with hands-on problem solving in a fast-moving environment.
- Experience in sports, recreation, or youth programming settings is preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree required; an advanced degree is preferred.
- 15–20+ years of experience in facilities, real estate, construction, or a related field within a multi-unit organization.
- Track record of leading portfolio strategy, large capital projects, and cross-functional initiatives at scale.
- Experience working with a wide range of stakeholders and building trusted relationships.
Personal Attributes
- Comfortable working in a dynamic environment where priorities can change quickly.
- Practical, solutions-focused approach with good judgment about when to escalate issues.
- Strong collaborator with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Able to work independently while staying closely aligned with a distributed team.
- Positive, proactive, organized, and creative, with a fresh approach to problem-solving.
Work Environment
This is a remote role based in the United States. The position requires the ability to communicate clearly through video, phone, and written channels. Occasional travel may be needed for site visits and business-related events.
