Volunteer Meals on Wheels Driver - Blenheim, Marlborough

About the Role

The Meals on Wheels initiative assists elderly, ill, and disabled individuals living independently who may struggle to cook nutritious meals on their own. Volunteers are welcomed to deliver hot meals accompanied by friendly conversation to those in need across New Zealand.

Key Responsibilities

• Volunteer approximately one day per month with flexible scheduling options.
• Begin shifts between 10:30 AM and 12:00 PM.
• Collect meals using your own vehicle.
• Deliver meals to recipients, ensuring to engage briefly in a polite chat at each doorstep.
• Verify dietary requirements for each client to ensure the right meal is provided.
• Return empty containers by around 1:00 PM or earlier.

Volunteer Requirements and Orientation

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Hold a valid driver's license and have access to a personal car with current registration and warrant of fitness.
• Complete between 4 to 8 hours of training before starting.
• Provide two character references.
• Undergo a Ministry of Justice background check, which may take from a few days up to a month depending on processing times.
• Comply with Health, Safety and Wellbeing policies as indicated during training.
• Ongoing support provided throughout by Red Cross volunteers or staff members.

Time Commitment and Schedule

Volunteering involves delivering meals within designated zones around the Blenheim area, picking up meals from Wairau Hospital between 10:30 and 10:45 AM, completing deliveries, and returning meal containers by approximately 1 PM. Flexibility is offered for shifting schedules.
