About the Organisation

Waiheke Island Supported Homes Trust (WISH Trust) is committed to delivering high-quality, person-centered supported housing around the clock for individuals living with long-term mental health conditions. The Trust's mission is to foster dignity, belonging, independence, and social connection, enabling tangata whaiora to live well, age in place, and maintain their ties to the Waiheke community.

Role Overview

This governance position involves participating in a close-knit, values-oriented Board where honesty, warmth, respectful challenge, and authentic connection are emphasized. The Volunteer Board Member will provide governance and strategic guidance, primarily focusing on the Trust's commercial and facilities portfolio or People, Culture, and Capability, while prioritizing the well-being of tangata whaiora in all decisions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Offer governance oversight and input aligned with WISH Trust’s vision and values.
  • Support the refreshment and maintenance planning of facilities and responsible asset management.
  • Provide insights related to commercial, financial, property, or business matters to enhance sustainability.
  • Collaborate effectively with fellow Trustees and the General Manager.
  • Maintain strong governance standards with awareness of risks and financial stewardship.
  • Serve as a guardian of the Trust’s values emphasizing dignity, belonging, and community integration.

Time Commitment

  • Approximately 3 hours monthly.
  • About 1.5 hours for the monthly Board meeting.
  • About 1.5 hours dedicated to the commercial/facilities portfolio.

Candidate Profile

  • Genuine passion for mental health, wellbeing, and social impact.
  • Experience in commercial or business leadership, property, facilities, or asset management.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a collaborative approach.
  • Previous governance experience is desirable but not mandatory.
