Job description
Role Overview
This position operates within the Southern Region Command of the Custodial Operations Division, overseeing custodial services across Queensland. It involves supervising high and low security correctional centres and delivering vocational training programs tailored for offenders in these facilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver and coordinate vocational training and skill development programs relevant to offenders' needs within correctional centres.
- Facilitate offender opportunities to access employment-related vocational education and training programs.
- Lead the organization and execution of vocational learning initiatives and ensure accurate maintenance of training and assessment records, including report preparation.
- Manage volunteers and part-time staff involved in vocational training activities, including supervision and coordination duties.
- Collaborate with the Adult Education Vocational Education and Training (AEVET) Branch to implement contracted and other VET programs.
- Support and liaise with centre-based vocational education and training providers to maintain program quality.
- Implement quality control measures and maintain communication channels with management, training providers, and participants.
- Oversee logistics for dispatching training materials and contribute to the estimation of funding requirements for vocational programs.
- Prepare program schedules, record prisoner training outcomes on the Integrated Offender Management System (IOMS), and participate in operational planning.
- Ensure compliance with workplace health and safety policies; maintain a safe environment for employees, contractors, visitors, and offenders.
- Participate actively in team meetings, sentence management reviews, and other planning activities relevant to offender vocational development.
Required Skills and Knowledge
- Competency in delivering vocational education and training to diverse learner groups.
- Experience in developing, implementing, and evaluating vocational training tailored to individuals or groups.
- Ability to assess vocational education needs as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Strong understanding of Workplace Health and Safety and Equal Employment Opportunity practices.
- High-level negotiation, oral, and written communication skills.
- Ability to engage effectively with individuals from varied cultural and social backgrounds, community groups, and staff members.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, and procedures governing correctional education services.
