About the role
Sheldon College’s Australian School of the Arts (ASTA) is a large, well-resourced arts pathway that brings together academy-style programs and an audition-based excellence stream, supporting students from Prep through Year 12 across the full spectrum of arts learning. More than 1,000 students are currently enrolled across these offerings.
The College is looking for an additional Visual Arts Tutor to run weekly co-curricular classes for students in Years 5 to 8. The role is focused on creating an encouraging, respectful and inclusive environment where young people can enjoy and develop their visual arts skills through engaging, collaborative sessions.
This position carries direct responsibility for student safety and wellbeing. The successful applicant must work in line with the College’s Child Safe Standards, associated policies and procedures, and all applicable legal and duty-of-care obligations.
This is a term-time position, with hours of 3:15 pm to 5:45 pm on Monday and Thursday.

About you
The ideal candidate will bring relevant experience and the ability to teach a range of practical art techniques while working confidently with school-aged students. You should be organised, self-directed and committed to high standards.

Requirements
- At least 12 months of relevant work experience.
- Ability to teach practical visual arts techniques, including drawing, acrylic and watercolour painting, collage, ceramics, printmaking and sculpture.
- A Diploma of Fine Art, Advanced Diploma of Fine Art or Bachelor of Fine Arts in Visual Art is preferred, or alternatively experience as a practising artist.
- Experience working with school-aged students.
- Strong commitment to quality and excellence.
- Capacity to work independently without close supervision.
- Good time management and organisational skills.
- Eligibility to obtain and hold a Working with Children Blue Card.
- Willingness to follow the College’s child safety and wellbeing policies and procedures.
- Completion of mandatory child protection and child safety training.
Responsibilities
- Deliver weekly co-curricular visual arts classes for Years 5 to 8.
- Create an inclusive and respectful classroom atmosphere.
- Support students in exploring and enjoying visual art through hands-on, collaborative activities.
- Apply child safety, duty of care and wellbeing obligations in all aspects of the role.
- Maintain a safe and supportive environment for students.
- Work in accordance with the College’s child safety standards, policies and procedures.
- Use sound judgement when working with students and children in a school setting.

Eligibility
This opportunity is suited to experienced visual arts educators, tutors or practising artists who can work with primary and lower secondary students, hold or can obtain a Working with Children Blue Card, and are able to comply with school child safety requirements.
Terms and conditions
This is a term-time engagement with set afternoon hours on Mondays and Thursdays. The College requires all staff to meet mandatory compliance, reporting and training obligations before commencing duties.
