Job Overview
Pleasant Valley Vineyard in Ontario is actively pursuing a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) and intends to hire a foreign worker once approved. This position mandates on-site work at the vineyard without remote work options.
Language and Education Requirements
- Proficiency in English or French is required.
- No formal degree, certificate, or diploma is necessary.
Experience
Candidates should have between two and three years of prior relevant experience.
Working Environment
- The work is conducted in an organic farming setting including viticulture on a farm exposed to various weather conditions, including hot climates.
Key Responsibilities
- Applying fertilizers and mixing them appropriately.
- Performing hoeing between the rows to maintain soil quality.
- Cleaning crops and work areas to ensure hygiene and safety.
- Clearing fields of debris such as wood and stones.
- Supporting cultivation using vertical farming systems.
- Managing the growth of vines, vine canopies, and grapes.
- Securing plants by tying and training trees to enhance fruit production quality and quantities.
- Weeding and spraying crops with fertilizers.
- Harvesting crops and assessing their quality and market readiness.
- Operating and maintaining agricultural machinery and equipment including tractors, farm trucks, fruit harvesters, planting, and tillage equipment.
- Preparing daily basic progress reports.
Certifications and Safety
- Possession of a First Aid Certificate is required.
- A clean criminal record check is necessary due to safety standards.
Crops and Equipment
- Experienced in working with apples, grapes, orchard fruits, and vineyards.
- Proficiency with hand tools and various farm machinery is expected.
Transportation and Work Conditions
- A valid driver's license and access to personal transportation are mandatory as public transport options are unavailable.
- The role demands physical stamina to handle tasks such as standing for extended periods, bending, crouching, kneeling, and lifting weights ranging from 9 kg to over 45 kg.
- The work environment is fast-paced with repetitive tasks, tight deadlines, and can be physically challenging.
