Role Summary
The Center of Excellence team seeks a Vice President or Director of Sales Operations to establish and implement commercial operating frameworks across multiple healthcare portfolio companies. The role targets key commercial outcomes such as predictable deal pipelines, unified data sources for decision-making, efficient revenue and marketing technology stacks, consistent sales rep performance, and real-time insights into revenue metrics.
This position will simultaneously support 4-8 portfolio companies, working closely with Chief Commercial Officers, Vice Presidents of Sales, CFOs, and CMOs. The role can involve embedded operational leadership during critical development phases, sales operations program leadership linked to investment cases, or ongoing advisory and coaching.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and oversee sales processes across the portfolio companies.
- Evaluate and bridge gaps in sales process maturity that impact forecast accuracy, identifying root causes such as process flaws, data issues, rep behavior, or management discipline.
- Create tailored end-to-end sales process frameworks including Ideal Customer Profile (ICP) definitions, lead qualification standards, pipeline stage gating criteria, forecasting methods, and deal review schedules.
- Design sales coverage, territory alignments, and quota structures collaborating with CFOs and commercial leaders.
- Build and deploy measurable sales onboarding programs that minimize ramp-up time, ensure playbook adherence, and boost early pipeline generation.
- Implement win/loss analysis and convert insights into process and training improvements.
- Ensure smooth marketing-to-sales-to-implementation transitions.
- Apply best practices in sales metrics, commercial performance reporting, and Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) processes.
- Define and execute commercial metrics and regular performance review workflows with portfolio leadership teams.
- Create executive dashboards for deal teams and boards to monitor commercial health in real time.
- Support investor reporting with consistent, high-quality commercial data.
- Collaborate with finance teams to align sales pipelines and forecasts with financial revenue plans and prioritize activities.
- Own CRM strategy, data standards, and support portfolio companies in deploying suitable commercial technology infrastructures.
- Establish a preferred commercial technology stack and guide implementation to fill technology gaps and integrations.
- Partner with marketing operations to maintain marketing automation hygiene, lead routing, and CRM integration.
- Define and govern Marketing Qualified Lead (MQL) and Sales Qualified Lead (SQL) standards and lead handoff processes.
- Oversee quote-to-revenue processes, including CPQ configuration, quote approvals, and contract standardization collaborating with finance counterparts.
- Develop sales-to-finance handoff procedures ensuring accuracy in revenue recognition and process improvements to reduce cycle times and bottlenecks.
- Develop portfolio-wide revenue operations frameworks adaptable by individual companies, including sales playbooks, CRM standards, marketing automation governance, and S&OP templates.
- Promote best practice sharing among portfolio commercial operations leaders and support commercial diligence during investment evaluations.
- Contribute to investment committee and board presentations outlining commercial infrastructure maturity and sales operations outcomes.
Qualifications and Skills
- Minimum of 5 years' direct experience in revenue or sales operations with responsibility for CRM, sales processes, forecasting, and commercial analytics.
- Proven results in improving forecast accuracy, pipeline conversions, reducing rep ramp times, or optimizing territory coverage.
- Exceptional relationship-building skills with management and investment teams, combined with a focus on impactful programs.
- Ability to act as a knowledgeable practitioner and build capabilities within management teams.
- Strong representation of company values and culture.
