Role Overview
The Vice President of Project Management is a senior leadership role focused on overseeing project governance, portfolio direction, and the successful delivery of major initiatives. This position is accountable for building a company-wide project management structure, guiding enterprise projects, and ensuring strategic programs are completed on time, within budget, and with measurable business impact.
Project Management Strategy and Framework
This leader will shape the organization’s project management direction, define the roadmap for improvement, create an enterprise PMO and governance model, and introduce consistent lifecycle methods. A key part of the role is continuously improving tools, workflows, and project systems so delivery becomes more efficient and standardized.
Portfolio and Resource Oversight
The role includes managing the full project portfolio, assessing priorities against strategic goals, and improving how people, budgets, and effort are allocated. The VP will ensure project spending supports business objectives and that investments are directed toward the highest-value initiatives.
Major Project Execution
This position leads high-impact projects across the company, including digital transformation efforts, system improvements, and new business launches. The VP will put stage-gates, milestone tracking, and delivery controls in place, while resolving issues and risks that could affect schedule, cost, or quality.
Cross-functional Delivery Leadership
Collaboration across Product, R&D, Operations, Marketing, and Finance is central to this role. The incumbent will align teams around shared objectives, create clear communication and escalation pathways, and strengthen the organization’s ability to execute quickly and effectively.
Performance Monitoring and Reporting
The Vice President will define project KPIs, track progress against cost, schedule, quality, and resource targets, and conduct post-project reviews to capture lessons learned. Regular reporting to the CEO or executive leadership on project performance and operational impact is also expected.
PMO and Capability Development
In addition to delivery oversight, this role is responsible for leading the PMO and project management team, building leadership pipelines, and advancing professional standards. Encouraging certifications such as PMP and Agile-related credentials is part of strengthening a results-driven project culture.
Risk, Compliance, and Controls
The role requires proactive risk management through early warning systems and strong controls around budgets, contracts, delivery, and operations. All project activity must align with internal policies and applicable industry standards while protecting the company’s brand and customer confidence.
Qualifications
Candidates should have a bachelor’s degree or above in Project Management, Engineering Management, Business Administration, or a related discipline. PMP, PgMP, or similar certifications are preferred, and an MBA is also considered an advantage. The ideal background includes more than 20 years in project management or broad operations management, at least 15 years leading complex, large-scale projects or PMO functions, and a strong track record of delivering cross-functional and cross-regional initiatives. Experience in digital transformation or enterprise-level project management is preferred.
Preferred Experience
Additional value will be given to candidates with exposure to project governance in large conglomerates or multinational companies, as well as those who have worked on ERP, CRM, platform upgrade, or other digital transformation programs. Familiarity with Agile or SAFe methodologies and experience presenting major project updates to the CEO or Board are also preferred.
Core Competencies
The ideal candidate brings strong project governance and portfolio management skills, the ability to translate strategy into action, solid problem-solving and risk management capability, and excellent cross-functional collaboration. Executive leadership and organizational management strength are essential to success in this role.
