Job description
Role Overview
Met-Con is seeking a Vice President of Operations to provide senior leadership across shop, field, and support functions. This position is accountable for driving operational performance and ensuring strong alignment across teams, with direct ownership of key metrics tied to safety, quality, productivity, and people development.
Core Responsibilities
- Direct and support multi-location operations for structural steel and miscellaneous metals fabrication and construction, including project management and estimating activities.
- Work closely with support functions such as quality control, purchasing, IT, equipment and asset management, and human resources to improve coordination and operating efficiency.
- Lead cross-functional efforts that improve collaboration between fabrication facilities, installation crews, and project management teams.
- Build, roll out, and sustain consistent operating procedures and standard practices across all sites.
- Track production plans, installation schedules, and staffing/resource allocation to keep projects moving on schedule and within budget.
- Contribute to executive planning and support company growth initiatives in partnership with the President/CEO.
- Run operational review meetings and KPI tracking sessions to spot trends, remove constraints, and drive corrective action.
- Coach and develop department heads and emerging leaders throughout the organization.
- Assist with hiring, training, and retention efforts alongside HR and department leaders.
- Serve as a primary connector between regional facilities and corporate leadership, helping ensure consistent execution of the company’s mission and culture.
Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or a closely related discipline, or an equivalent mix of education and relevant experience.
- At least 10 years of progressive leadership experience in structural steel, miscellaneous metals, construction, or industrial operations.
- Solid knowledge of operational management, construction workflows, safety, and project management.
- Demonstrated success leading and developing teams across multiple locations.
- Strong communication, leadership, planning, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to read and act on performance data and KPI reports.
- Experience with ERP and scheduling tools such as Microsoft Project and Tekla PowerFab is preferred.
