Job description
Overview
An expanding real estate investment and operating company is looking for a Vice President of Multifamily Operations to lead a portfolio of apartment communities. This senior role blends day-to-day operations, asset management, and support for transactions, and is suited to someone who performs well in a dynamic, entrepreneurial setting.
The role will be central to improving property results, assisting with acquisitions and dispositions, and building repeatable operating systems across the portfolio. The position is based in Bala Cynwyd, PA, with travel required, and reports to executive leadership.
Portfolio Operations Leadership
- Take ownership of daily operations across the multifamily portfolio, with accountability for occupancy, NOI, and resident satisfaction.
- Guide and grow regional and corporate teams through hiring, coaching, and performance oversight.
- Set and enforce consistent standards for leasing, maintenance, compliance, and customer service.
- Visit properties regularly to evaluate operations, physical condition, and team performance.
- Spot process gaps and put improvements in place to strengthen results and scalability.
Transactions & Asset Strategy
- Help assess potential investments through underwriting and due diligence support.
- Contribute to acquisition business plans and help ensure execution after closing.
- Assist with financing activities by preparing presentation materials and coordinating with lenders.
- Work with internal and external partners during acquisitions, refinancing, and dispositions.
Financial Oversight & Performance
- Lead annual budgeting and ongoing forecasting for the portfolio.
- Review operating performance, study variances, and implement corrective action plans.
- Oversee pricing, leasing pace, and occupancy strategies to maximize revenue.
- Maintain tight control over expenses and vendor performance.
Leasing, Marketing & Market Intelligence
- Track local market trends such as rent levels, concessions, and competitive positioning.
- Align leasing and marketing efforts with property-level objectives.
- Ensure digital listings and online presence remain accurate and up to date.
Capital Improvements & Asset Quality
- Identify and rank capital projects that improve asset value and resident experience.
- Partner with leadership on capital planning and execution.
- Oversee project delivery with construction and maintenance teams.
Stakeholder Communication & Risk Management
- Act as a primary contact for ownership and investment partners.
- Share regular updates on portfolio performance, risks, and opportunities.
- Maintain lender relationships and assist with required reporting.
- Respond rapidly to urgent operational issues, escalations, and emergencies.
Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree in Real Estate, Finance, Business, or a related discipline is preferred. The ideal candidate brings 10+ years of multifamily experience spanning operations, asset management, and/or investments, along with a strong record of improving asset performance and portfolio value.
Strong financial judgment is important, including budgeting, forecasting, and KPI analysis. Experience with property management systems such as Yardi or RealPage, plus advanced Excel skills, is preferred. The role also requires the ability to work at both a strategic and hands-on level, along with strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving ability.
