It boasts a people-centric culture recognized by Great Place To Work® certification and Fortune's Best Small Workplaces™.

Role Overview

The Vice President of IT and Security role is a pivotal leadership position within Karbon. This role encompasses ownership of Internal IT (identity and access management, devices, configurations), Security (corporate and application security), Governance, Risk & Compliance, and Enterprise Incident Response along with Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery.

This role combines strategic leadership with hands-on execution, including tasks such as log analysis, policy creation, tool configuration, and vendor evaluations. Reporting directly to the CEO, the VP will collaborate closely with departments like Engineering, Finance, and Legal while leading an established SecOps team from day one. This is a newly structured role aimed at building and transitioning IT from managed service providers to an in-house function.

Responsibilities

  • Manage daily operations of device fleets and internal systems.
  • Oversee IT service delivery and support, including helpdesk, incident/problem management, and SLAs during MSP to internal team transition.
  • Administer identity and access management (Okta), including onboarding and offboarding processes.
  • Supervise endpoint management (MDM), ensuring policies for PCs and Macs globally.
  • Develop and maintain vendor relations, contracts, renewals, and assess license optimizations.
  • Establish and advocate security strategies, policies, and organizational standards.
  • Manage security toolset such as EDR, SIEM, and email security platforms.
  • Lead the Application Security team.
  • Maintain information security policies and risk frameworks.
  • Own risk management, SOC 2 readiness, audit coordination, and compliance expertise for client and partner engagements.
  • Develop and update incident response plans and playbooks, including severity classification, escalation, and regulatory notifications.
  • Direct business continuity and backup strategies.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum 12 years of experience in IT and security, with at least 5 years in senior leadership roles.
  • Demonstrated success in building or managing internal IT teams; experience transitioning from MSP models highly valued.
  • Proven hands-on operational and security capabilities to support teams when necessary.
  • Strong familiarity with compliance standards such as SOC 2.
  • Experience in B2B SaaS environments preferred.

Technical Expertise

  • Proficient with Identity and Access Management tools (preferably Okta and Entra).
  • Experience managing Mobile and Endpoint Device Management platforms.
  • Knowledgeable on Endpoint Detection & Response solutions, including Jamf Protect and Microsoft Defender for Endpoint.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or GCP.
  • Experience with Google Workspace or Office 365 productivity suites.
  • Exposure to Netskope is highly desirable.

Skills and Attributes

  • Adept at balancing strategic planning and operational execution.
  • Effective communicator capable of translating technical concepts to CEO, board members, and enterprise clients.
  • Commercially astute, understanding security and compliance impact on sales, trust, and product progress.
  • Comfortable leading in ambiguous environments with evolving processes.
  • Collaborative approach but firm when necessary.

Why Join Karbon?

  • Opportunity to gain global experience with a multinational footprint.
  • Comprehensive benefits including flexible time off with an encouragement to take four weeks annually, company-paid medical insurance for employees and eligible dependents, dental and vision coverage, 401(k) with matching, flexible spending accounts, parental leave up to eight weeks, and home-office stipends.
  • Be part of a high-performing, experienced team with a collaborative culture valuing diversity and development.
  • Contribute to a fast-growing company that promotes from within.

Compensation

The estimated base salary range is $220,000 to $245,000 USD annually. Pay varies based on location, skills, experience, and business needs. Total packages may also include bonuses and equity. Karbon values mission alignment alongside compensation.
