Overview
Rothenbury Group is seeking a seasoned Vice President of Finance to enhance financial transparency, reporting, cash flow management, forecasting, internal controls, documentation, and executive-level decision support across its portfolio of technology-enabled enterprises in sectors such as real estate, property management, brokerage, leasing, and staffing.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate current financial records, reporting workflows, control measures, and supporting documents across multiple entities.
- Detect information gaps, unexplained discrepancies, financial risks, process inefficiencies, and prioritize corrective measures.
- Enhance visibility of cash flows, budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning to provide clear management reports.
- Establish structured reporting frameworks that communicate performance, financial obligations, risks, and important decisions to leadership.
- Strengthen reconciliations, approval routines, internal controls, and operational discipline within finance.
- Collaborate effectively with internal teams and external professionals including accountants, tax advisors, legal counsel, lenders, banks, and vendors.
- Deliver pragmatic recommendations supporting both immediate and strategic financial improvements.
Additional Duties
- Analyze and reconcile comprehensive financial and accounting data for various companies.
- Review records related to banking, payroll, taxes, ownership, investments, vendors, clients, receivables, payables, budgets, and forecasts.
- Prepare executive-level summaries, detailed reports, financial models, dashboards, and reconciliations.
- Implement improvements in document organization, file naming standards, and document readiness.
- Support finance clean-up efforts, system migrations, special audits, and ongoing finance initiatives.
Candidate Profile
- Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in finance, accounting, controllership, FP&A, corporate finance, or senior financial roles.
- At least 5 years in senior finance leadership roles such as VP of Finance or Director of Finance.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Economics, or related field; professional designations such as CPA, CA, CMA, CGA or MBA are strongly preferred.
- Deep expertise in reviewing complex financial data, controls, budgets, and forecasting.
- Advanced skills in financial reporting, cash flow management, budgeting, forecasting, and implementing internal control procedures.
- Proficiency in financial modeling, dashboards, executive reporting, and management communication.
- Strong capacity to identify financial gaps, risk areas, and control weaknesses.
- Experience coordinating with various stakeholders including accountants, legal teams, banks, and consultants.
- Advanced Excel or Google Sheets abilities related to financial analysis and modeling.
- Proven communication, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
- Ability to independently manage shifting priorities and advise leadership effectively.
Preferred Experience
- Managing finance across multiple entities or divisions.
- Background in real estate finance, property management, or asset development accounting.
- Experience with founder-led or fast-growing companies.
- Track record of improving finance functions during periods of growth or transition.
- Combining strategic leadership with hands-on financial problem solving.
Work Environment and Location
This hybrid role is based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Candidates must reside locally and be able to attend in-person meetings, training, or events as needed despite primarily remote work arrangements.
Compensation and Benefits
The position offers an annual base salary between CAD 180,000 and CAD 200,000, depending on experience and qualifications, plus a performance-based bonus targeting 15%–20% of the base pay. Bonus criteria include accuracy and timeliness of reporting, cash flow improvements, strength of controls, financial cleanup efforts, reporting quality, process discipline, and decision support contributions.
