Role overview

This leadership position oversees Inogen’s patient-centered sales organization and related initiatives. The role guides a multi-location team made up of sales managers and inside sales professionals who work directly with homecare patients, and it also includes oversight of the physician sales team.

The VP Direct to Patient Sales is expected to build sales plans, prepare forecasts and expense budgets, and drive results aligned with Inogen’s Annual Operating Plan.

Location and work arrangement

This is an onsite role with a strong presence required in Plano, Texas and Boston, Massachusetts. Relocation support is available for candidates who qualify. For those who do not relocate, travel may reach up to 50%, including as much as two weeks onsite in Plano and/or Boston each month.

Key responsibilities

  • Own the sales performance of the team and remain accountable for delivering results against plan.
  • Create, review, and update sales plans and forecasts on an ongoing basis, with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Build expense budgets and keep team spending within approved limits.
  • Coach and support team members so they are well prepared to serve customers, follow policies and procedures, and receive consistent training.
  • Make sure the Direct to Patient inside sales team and the Referral Development Manager outside sales channel work together effectively to meet company goals and customer expectations.
  • Lead the creation and refinement of sales policies, procedures, and work instructions, using metrics to improve efficiency, effectiveness, and compliance.
  • Partner with Sales Management and Sales Members to run trials that expand sales, improve productivity, and lower costs.
  • Develop and interpret performance metrics, then present the findings in formal business reviews with executive leadership.
  • Set the tone for a culture built on respect, accountability, and achievement.
  • Work with the EVP of Sales and Marketing to define performance measures and execute corrective action plans when results vary from target.
  • Monitor key metrics and produce sales reports to support team management.
  • Ensure sales processes are followed and all legal, regulatory, and compliance requirements are met.
  • Help improve customer service through ongoing operational and process enhancements.
  • Collaborate with managers across departments to strengthen teamwork, patient service, and operational efficiency.
  • Support human resource objectives through coaching, development, and programs that attract and retain strong talent.
  • Work with team members to define best practices and drive continuous improvement.
  • Handle additional special projects as required.
  • Maintain regular, punctual attendance.
  • Follow all company policies and procedures.
  • Take on other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, English, Communications, or a related discipline is required.
  • At least 15 years of experience in sales or customer service is required; experience with the 65+ demographic for 5 or more years is preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of management experience, including oversight of at least five direct reports.
  • At least 3 years of director-level experience in a large corporation is required.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office proficiency is required.
  • An equivalent mix of education, training, and experience may also be considered.

Compensation and benefits

The expected base salary range for this role is $167,000 to $200,000 per year, plus variable compensation under the Sales Commission Plan. Final base pay will depend on individual qualifications, including skills, education, experience, and market location, in a non-discriminatory manner.
