Job description

About the company

Lucent Biosciences is focused on advancing sustainable agriculture through crop nutrition products that can lift yields, support healthier soils, and help store carbon. Its first commercial product, Soileos, is a cellulose-based smart micronutrient fertilizer designed to improve yields while contributing to soil health. The company is working on additional innovations, including cellulose-based seed coatings and slow-release NPK coatings, as part of its research and development pipeline.

Role overview

The organization is seeking a highly commercial, results-driven Vice President Commercial who will take full ownership of revenue growth. Reporting to the CEO and acting as a core executive leader, this person will be responsible for delivering and surpassing annual goals for revenue, gross margin, and market share. The role calls for someone who can build a high-performing commercial engine from the ground up, turn channel partners into growth drivers, and ensure the brand translates into measurable pipeline and sales.

Key responsibilities

Success in this role will be judged primarily by business growth and revenue performance.

  • Lead overall revenue expansion through direct B2B selling and commercial leadership, while owning ambitious targets for sales, margin, and share growth.
  • Hire, develop, and manage a sales organization and a revenue-oriented marketing team with clear goals, disciplined pipeline oversight, and a strong performance mindset.
  • Create an annual revenue blueprint that covers product introductions, quarterly forecasts, territory planning, pricing approach, and channel economics, and report progress directly to the CEO and board with complete accountability.
  • Grow the distributor, retail, and grower network by identifying, securing, and activating channel partners that can drive higher volume across the region.
  • Oversee marketing across brand, product positioning, demand generation, digital activity, agronomic content, and trade marketing, with the aim of building qualified pipeline, improving channel sell-through, and shortening the sales cycle for Soileos.
  • Work closely with R&D, production, and supply chain teams to align demand planning with manufacturing capacity and feed customer insights back into future product development.

Candidate profile

The right candidate combines commercial leadership, agricultural industry knowledge, and a proven ability to build scalable revenue organizations.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in agriculture, agribusiness, science, business, or marketing is required; an MBA or an advanced agronomy qualification would be an advantage.
  • At least 15 years of progressive commercial experience, with a clear sales-first orientation, including more than 5 years in senior sales roles with direct responsibility for targets.
  • Strong understanding of the agricultural value chain, including growers, agronomists, ag-retail, and distribution.
  • Experience building and scaling both commercial teams and distribution networks.
  • A consistent track record of exceeding revenue, margin, and market-share objectives across multiple territories, supported by measurable results.
  • Ability to convert relationships with distributors, retail partners, agronomists, and growers into durable revenue-generating accounts.
  • Comfort operating both in the field closing deals and in executive settings presenting commercial strategy to the board.
  • Willingness to travel extensively across Canada and the United States to stay close to partners, growers, and field activity.

Compensation and benefits

  • Competitive pay with a base salary and performance-based incentives tied to commercial results.
  • Vacation starting at 3 weeks.
  • Extended health coverage for the employee and family.
  • Long-term disability protection for added income security.

Why join Lucent Bio

  • Opportunity to contribute to environmental and climate impact in agriculture.
  • A dynamic, fast-moving, entrepreneurial workplace.
  • Collaborative, proactive, and engaging colleagues.
  • Comprehensive and competitive compensation.
