Position Overview

The Utility Line Locator role involves accurately and safely identifying, locating, and marking underground network facilities. The role requires working from a company vehicle equipped with a laptop and smartphone to ensure clear and precise network identification for excavators or property owners.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive searches for underground utilities and accurately mark their locations, completing all required documentation.
• Operate locator systems including sub-site and handheld equipment, for installing underground telecommunications conduit and fiber optic cables.
• Ensure public and utility safety by protecting underground facilities.
• Confirm that all relevant permits and locates are in place and present on-site.
• Adhere to all safety protocols and utilize appropriate safety gear.
• Work outdoors under various weather conditions. Position requires adherence to a 48-hour turnaround time on locates, often including work after holidays and occasionally on weekends.

Qualifications and Experience

• At least two years of experience using geophysical multi-frequency locating equipment within underground utility locating settings, either in a contract utility locating firm or major utility company.
• Capability to work outdoors across diverse weather conditions and in confined spaces.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and mapping tools such as ERIS and Google Earth.
• Willingness to work overtime, including some weekends as needed.
• Possession of a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

Working Environment and Physical Demands

• Manage multiple tasks effectively in high-pressure settings with a positive attitude.
• Handle significant workload in a fast-paced office environment.
• Travel commitments may reach up to 20% of work time.
• Flexible working hours including evenings, holidays, and weekends are required.
• Physical requirements include continuous standing, walking, climbing, bending, crouching, pushing, pulling, carrying, reaching, and lifting weights up to more than 30 lbs.
• Repetitive hand actions with fine dexterity and frequent visual and auditory acuity are needed.
• Exposure to environmental factors such as cold and heat frequently, and occasional exposure to dampness, heights, vibrations, irritants, dust, fumes, and gases.
