We specialize in delivering secure, high-quality interpretation and translation services in more than 80 spoken and signed languages, primarily for USCIS and various federal agencies.
Role Overview
We are seeking skilled Twi (Akan) Over-the-Phone Interpreters (OPI) to support USCIS operations. Twi is a significant language spoken in Ghana and related diaspora communities, crucial for asylum, refugee, and immigration cases.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide instant telephonic interpretation between Twi (Akan) and English during USCIS interviews, hearings, and other official events.
- Ensure interpretation is accurate, impartial, and professional, particularly within immigration and asylum matters.
- Uphold strict confidentiality and adhere to USCIS/DHS interpreter ethics and guidelines.
- Handle both planned assignments and urgent interpretation demands.
- Engage in training sessions, compliance updates, and quality audits to maintain performance standards.
Required Qualifications
- Fluent in both Twi (Akan) and English at a native or near-native proficiency level.
- Minimum of two years of professional interpreting experience, preferably in immigration, legal, healthcare, community, or government sectors.
- Well-versed in interpreter ethics, confidentiality protocols, and culturally sensitive communication.
- Excellent verbal communication skills over the phone, capable of maintaining accuracy under pressure.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident eligible for Tier 3 or Tier 5 security clearance.
Compensation and Benefits
- Competitive hourly pay between $28 and $35 reflecting the rare-language premium.
- Work remotely using secure systems approved by USCIS.
- Paid training programs and opportunities for professional development.
- Consistent workload supported by a federal contract.
- Possibilities for career growth into roles like quality assurance or linguist leadership.
Additional Information
- Flexible schedule available.
- Advancement opportunities within the organization.
Application Instructions
Candidates should send their resume highlighting relevant Twi (Akan) interpreting experience along with any certifications such as community, medical, court, or professional interpreting credentials. Please indicate availability for full-time or contractor positions when applying.
