Job description

Role overview

This travel nursing assignment is for a registered nurse in Labor, Delivery, Recovery, and Postpartum (LDRP) at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown, New York. The position runs for 12 weeks and follows a 36-hour workweek with 12-hour daytime shifts.

Schedule and assignment details

  • Shift pattern is scheduled on an 8-week rotation, with assignments typically running from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. or 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.
  • The rotation includes every other weekend and holiday.
  • The team tries to honor shift preferences and may offer block scheduling when staffing allows, though it is not guaranteed.
  • Nurses are not generally expected to move back and forth between day and night schedules without consistency.
  • If unit coverage needs change, temporary shift adjustments may be requested.

Unit profile

The OB/LDRP unit averages 80–90 deliveries per month, though volume can vary. The team includes a mix of experienced RNs and newer graduates who are still building specialty obstetric skills, so a traveler is an important part of maintaining patient care coverage.

  • 4 labor/delivery/recovery rooms, each with a private bath, shower, and spa tub
  • 8 postpartum rooms with refrigerators and fold-out couches
  • Operating rooms for Caesarean births
  • A special care nursery

Experience and certification expectations

Applicants are ideally seasoned in obstetrics, but the facility may consider nurses with less than 3 years of OB experience if they have prior travel experience or have worked in a specialized OB environment.

  • Preferred background: 3+ years of OB experience
  • Required credentials: BLS, NRP, and Intermediate Fetal Monitoring certification

Contract notes

The assignment is expected to last 12 to 13 weeks; shorter contracts are not preferred because the unit needs dependable coverage. Travelers are expected to work every other holiday, similar to permanent staff, although holiday requests may be approved based on unit requirements.

About the employer
