Job description
About the Role
Shiseido, established in 1872, is a global beauty business present in around 120 countries and regions. Its guiding purpose is to deliver beauty innovations that contribute to a better world. The Singapore-based Travel Retail division manages the company’s worldwide duty-free business, helping Shiseido brands grow across airports, downtown duty-free stores, border shops, airlines, and ferries. The portfolio spans skincare brands such as SHISEIDO, Clé de Peau Beauté, IPSA, ANESSA, THE GINZA, Drunk Elephant, and ELIXIR; makeup brand NARS; and fragrance labels including narciso rodriguez and ISSEY MIYAKE PARFUMS.
Role Overview
This position is responsible for shaping and executing global travel retail strategies that support Shiseido Group’s broader objectives. The role brings together medium- and long-term planning across commercial, financial, brand, and capability priorities. It requires end-to-end ownership of strategy work, from defining the problem and analyzing data to presenting polished recommendations for senior leaders, with the level of rigor and structured thinking expected from a high-caliber management consulting background.
Key Responsibilities
The role involves building the future view of travel retail by researching market shifts, analyzing competitors, and using consumer and retailer insights to refine strategic priorities. It also includes aligning cross-regional and global business direction through collaboration with STR, China-TR zone, HQ, brand owners, and strategy teams across regions. Another major responsibility is converting strategy into practical business plans by partnering with travel retail markets and functional leaders on distribution, brand portfolio, financial objectives, roadmaps, and KPIs.
You will also assess and support business cases for new markets and investments, working with commercial, marketing, and finance teams to evaluate opportunities that grow distribution, increase market share, or improve profitability. In addition, you will help drive the annual and quarterly LE and budget planning cycle so that market, brand, and financial goals remain aligned with the mid-term plan and overall commitments. The role further requires translating strategic priorities into clear communication materials, running workshops, townhalls, and taskforces, and preparing story-driven executive presentations and analysis that help leadership make decisions. You will also support the STR leadership team and line manager on ad hoc projects and topics across departments.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree, or an equivalent qualification, in Business Administration, Economics, Management, or a related business discipline is required.
- Applicants should bring 6 to 9 years of professional experience, ideally with a strong grounding in top-tier management consulting at around engagement manager level or similar, along with corporate strategy exposure.
- Experience independently leading strategy initiatives or workstreams from start to finish is necessary, and managing several projects at once is considered a plus.
- Background in travel retail, beauty, or FMCG will be beneficial.
- Strong critical thinking and the ability to explain the overall strategic picture are important.
- The role calls for strong analytical capability, including data analysis, financial modelling, and market research.
- You should be able to separate surface symptoms from underlying causes and guide teams toward practical solutions.
- Excellent slide-writing and presentation-building skills are essential, including the ability to create clear, convincing executive-level materials on your own.
- The ability to influence and collaborate effectively with senior leaders, peers, and junior team members is needed.
- You should be able to anticipate requirements and deliver projects within the agreed scope, timeline, budget, and available resources.
