Position Overview
We are seeking a Transportation Planner/Modeler to join our Traffic and Transportation Planning team based in Pune, India. The candidate will work under moderate supervision to conduct foundational transportation projects primarily serving clients in the Middle East and the USA. Responsibilities include gathering, compiling, and analyzing transportation data, performing traffic studies and impact assessments, and developing traffic modeling and simulation frameworks.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze demographic, land use, traffic count, and travel speed data to assess existing and forecasted conditions.
- Conduct capacity assessments for intersections and roadways using industry-standard software tools.
- Develop basic programming scripts in Excel or other languages to support data analysis efforts.
- Prepare land use data integral to traffic modeling processes.
- Carry out traffic demand modeling tasks, such as network updates, traffic assignment runs, and extraction of results.
- Perform traffic simulation including modeling network setups, parameter coding, and simulation execution.
- Generate engineering calculations, cartographic outputs, and evaluate various mitigation measures or project alternatives.
- Produce comprehensive technical reports detailing traffic analysis, modeling, and simulation findings.
- Collaborate closely with Highway Design and CAD teams to address design-related traffic considerations.
- Travel periodically to CDM Smith offices in the Middle East to coordinate with onsite teams.
Candidate Requirements
- Master's degree in Civil or Transportation Engineering from an accredited institution.
- 3 to 5 years of experience in traffic engineering and transportation modeling, inclusive of at least three international projects involving traffic studies or modeling.
- 1 to 2 years of experience using traffic analysis software such as PTV VISSIM, SYNCHRO, HCS, and SIDRA.
- 1 to 2 years of proficiency with demand modeling software like PTV VISUM and/or TRANSCAD.
- Competent with MicroStation and Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Practical application of Highway Capacity Manual (HCM) methods within traffic studies.
- Strong knowledge of traffic engineering and transportation planning principles particularly related to intersections and roadways.
- Experience conducting Traffic Impact and Feasibility Studies.
- Moderate scripting or programming skills in languages such as R, Python, or BASIC.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
Additional Details
This position is based onsite in Pune, India, and involves occasional travel to the Middle East. Candidates with a background in international project exposure and collaborative design work will thrive in this role.
