Job description

Role Overview

British Transport Police is seeking experienced police officers who are either transferring from another force or returning to policing to join the Inverness team as uniformed Police Constables. This position is suited to people who want to make a practical difference through people-centred policing, protecting passengers, supporting vulnerable individuals, and helping prevent crime.

The role values strong communication, empathy, emotional intelligence, and sound judgement alongside operational policing experience. Officers are expected to contribute to public safety while building trust and providing reassurance across the community.

Eligibility

  • Applications are open to current or former officers from a Home Office Police Force, Police Scotland, or the Police Service of Northern Ireland.
  • Transferee applicants must be substantive in rank and must have completed probation.
  • Re-joiners must apply within 5 years of leaving and must previously have been substantive in rank.
  • Applicants must have lived in the UK for the last 3 consecutive years.
  • There must be no live misconduct warnings or active performance concerns.
  • Applicants cannot be under investigation by another force at the time of application.
  • Applicants must not have active County Court Judgments, unmanaged Individual Voluntary Arrangements, or bankruptcy issues.
  • Applications are not accepted from individuals dismissed from another force.
  • Applications are not accepted from candidates who were refused vetting by another force within the last 2 years.
  • For locations outside Inner London, a full UK driving licence is required.
