Job description
Role Overview
This role involves serving as the Training Programme Director for Internal Medicine Stage One (IMS1). The individual will assist the Head of School in advancing the strategic planning of the School of Medicine and take a leadership role in recruitment and retention initiatives. A core part of the position involves membership on the School Board.
Strategic Change Initiatives
The existing training oversight for IMS1 doctors, managed by multiple TPDs assigned to different deanery sectors, is being reconsidered to enhance educator development and ongoing trainee support. Changes include:
- Introducing a Lead TPD position to coordinate the service and support educators, particularly those new to TPD or Educational Supervisor roles.
- Implementing comprehensive governance protocols concerning ARCPs (Annual Review of Competence Progression).
- Establishing TPD leads dedicated to supporting doctors returning to training post-leave and improving their work environment, including equitable management of less than full-time working arrangements.
- Developing a team structure capable of handling workload fluctuations effectively.
- Ensuring presence at teaching sessions to promptly address queries.
- Setting up a clear point of contact for urgent issues.
The Greater Manchester Hub IMS1 will be the inaugural site for this new system.
Key Responsibilities as Lead TPD for Greater Manchester Hub IMS1

- Overseeing recruitment processes.
- Handling LTFT (Less Than Full Time) processes and track assignments.
- Leading acceleration panels.
- Managing Out of Programme (OOP) applications and providing support related to clinical academic queries.
- Supervising and supporting year TPDs.
