Position Overview
The Traffic Control Flagger plays a crucial role in managing vehicular movement around construction sites, road repair zones, and other active work areas. Responsibilities include the installation and removal of traffic control signage, cones, and barricades to safeguard both workers and passing motorists. Effective communication using hand signals, signs, and other devices ensures smooth traffic flow through or around the zones. The role requires prolonged standing outdoors in various weather conditions and involves physical activity such as lifting and managing equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Install and remove signs, cones, and traffic control devices to redirect traffic safely around work areas.
- Use stop/slow paddles to regulate traffic movement effectively.
- Maintain clear communication with team members utilizing two-way radios.
- Stand, walk, and use arm movements repeatedly for up to 10 hours daily.
- Lift, carry, push, pull, and maneuver items exceeding 50 pounds as needed.
- Transport traffic control equipment by driving company vehicles to job sites.
- Conduct routine inspections and maintenance on company vehicles to ensure operational safety.
- Work in environments exposed to varied weather, moving machinery, traffic, fumes, and airborne particles.
- Adapt to moderate to loud noise levels typical of the work setting.
- Comply fully with company policies and procedures.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Possess a valid driver's license.
- Clear background check, including driving record verification.
- Pass drug screening and satisfy federal Department of Transportation standards.
- Wear required safety gear, including safety-toe boots, hard hat, safety glasses, and reflective vest.
- Competent in operating two-way radios for team communication.
- Willing to work outdoors in various weather and traffic conditions.
- Communicate effectively with contractors and internal personnel, delivering top-tier customer service.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Exhibit strong attendance, dependable transportation, and a dedicated work ethic.
- Complete the ATSSA Flagger training and company-led Defensive Driver training successfully.
- Available for statewide travel, including occasional overnight stays, and flexible to work nights or weekends as project demands.
- Participate in a rotating on-call schedule as required.
