Role overview
NZ Safety Blackwoods is seeking a Trade Sales Assistant for its Petone Trade Centre in Lower Hutt, Wellington. The role suits someone who enjoys creating strong customer connections, working toward sales results, and contributing to a close-knit team in a busy trade environment.
This position is full time at 42 hours per week, with work scheduled from Tuesday to Saturday. The weekly pattern is Tuesday to Friday from 7:30am to 5:00pm, and Saturday from 8:30am to 3:00pm. The role reports to the Assistant Manager.
The job combines customer service, selling, store support, stock control, and some manual handling. It is ideal for a person who is confident with customers, enjoys problem-solving, and can stay productive in a fast-paced setting.
What the role involves
- Act as the first contact for customers visiting the Trade Centre.
- Work out customer needs and recommend suitable solutions from the product range.
- Deliver a high standard of service that encourages repeat business and loyalty.
- Look for opportunities to add value through upselling and cross-selling.
- Work with suppliers and internal support teams so customer requests are handled accurately and on time.
- Help keep the store looking professional and maintain visual merchandising standards.
- Restock products and manage stock rotation correctly.
- Receive, pack, and send incoming and outgoing goods.
- Support accurate inventory records and stock tracking.
- Help maintain a safe, positive, and productive team culture.

The preferred candidate will have experience in retail, sales, or a trade-related setting. A background or knowledge base in PPE, hardware, engineering supplies, tools, or workwear would be an advantage.

The role suits someone comfortable in a busy environment, physically active work, and standing for long periods. Strong computer literacy is needed, including experience with point-of-sale systems and Microsoft Office.
