Role overview
Gympie Regional Council is seeking a dependable, hands-on Town Cleaning & Open Space Maintenance Officer to join its Open Space team in Gympie, Queensland. This position plays an important part in keeping streets, parks, public areas and recreational facilities safe, tidy and pleasant for both locals and visitors.
You will work within a multi-skilled team and carry out a mix of cleaning, maintenance and plant-operation duties across council-managed parks, reserves, sporting areas, urban streetscapes, beaches, foreshores and cemeteries.
Key duties
- Safely operate trucks, sweepers, cleaning machines and other plant and equipment.
- Clean streets, footpaths, parks, BBQ areas, public furniture and other council assets.
- Collect litter and empty bins in public spaces.
- Remove dumped waste, spills, debris and other rubbish from council land.
- Carry out CBD road and pedestrian area cleaning, including chewing gum and spill removal.
- Clear debris, silt and similar material from pits and drains to help reduce flood risk.
- Help maintain the appearance and cleanliness of parks, reserves and open spaces.
- Follow all workplace health and safety policies and procedures.
- Assist other Open Space maintenance crews when needed.
- Support the onboarding and training of new and casual staff.
- Contribute ideas that improve efficiency and work practices.

Mandatory requirements
- Current Queensland Class C driver licence.
- Current Construction Industry White Card, or Blue Card.
Highly regarded licences and tickets
- Queensland MR driver licence.
- Work Safely at Heights certification.
- Elevated Work Platform licence.
- Chainsaw competency.
- Ability to implement traffic management plans.
- Skid steer or front-end loader ticket.
- Agricultural Chemicals Distribution Control (ACDC) licence.
Salary and benefits
The role offers an annual salary starting from $73,593, plus superannuation of up to 15%.
