Job description
Role Overview
The City of Fredericksburg is seeking a part-time Tourism Marketing Assistant to support the Economic Development and Tourism team in promoting the city to visitors. This position is based onsite in Fredericksburg, Virginia and offers a hiring range of $17.82 to $19.60 per hour, depending on qualifications. The role includes paid training and is designed as a stable opportunity to contribute to public service.
Key Duties
You will help create and support tourism marketing efforts across print, digital, and event channels. The work combines creative content production, website and social media support, destination marketing, and assistance with promotional campaigns and events.
- Support the development of print and digital marketing assets such as advertisements, graphics, photography, video content, newsletters, and email campaigns.
- Help carry out the department’s social media plan by creating posts, tracking trends, and encouraging online engagement across multiple platforms.
- Assist with maintaining FXBG.com and other tourism-related websites so content stays current, accurate, and engaging.
- Contribute to destination marketing efforts, including the FXBG Diverse City Campaign, blogs, seasonal promotions, and video content.
- Help plan, promote, and execute tourism programs and special events such as Restaurant Week, Scarecrow Fest, Holiday Open House, Christmas Tree Lighting, Window Wonderland, and similar initiatives.
- Support photography, videography, storytelling, media relations, influencer visits, and related promotional logistics.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Marketing & Communication Manager.
Qualifications
Applicants should have an associate degree in marketing, advertising, or a closely related discipline, along with at least one year of experience in tourism and marketing. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may also be considered.
Work Conditions
The role is mostly office-based and sedentary, but it also involves light physical activity, repetitive tasks, audiovisual equipment handling, and occasional lifting of up to 20 pounds. The position may require outdoor work during tourism events, including prolonged standing and walking in different weather conditions. Evening and weekend hours may occasionally be needed for special events and marketing activities.
