Role Overview

The Time & Attendance Manager leads the Time & Attendance function within a division, ensuring precise and timely recording of employee hours, compliance with rosters, leave management, and attendance data essential for payroll processing. This role provides operational leadership, expert guidance, and mentorship to the Time & Attendance team, continually driving process improvements, upholding legislative compliance, and delivering exceptional customer service across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily activities of the Time & Attendance team ensuring efficient task allocation and workload balance to meet service level expectations and payroll deadlines.
  • Resolve complex and escalated attendance queries effectively.
  • Ensure accurate handling of timesheets, leave entries, roster deviations, and attendance records.
  • Maintain and safeguard the integrity of Time & Attendance systems.
  • Identify and implement enhancements in processes, workflows, and system efficiency.
  • Monitor operational performance against key performance indicators and service level agreements.
  • Lead, guide, and develop team members through coaching and regular performance reviews.
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, and training initiatives for new hires.
  • Promote a collaborative, high-achieving, and customer-oriented team environment.
  • Provide expert advice on complex attendance issues ensuring compliance with industrial awards, enterprise agreements, legislation, and company policies.
  • Guarantee accuracy and promptness in Time & Attendance processing, adherence to payroll deadlines, and audit procedures.
  • Identify potential compliance risks and enforce corrective measures.
  • Prepare detailed operational reports covering attendance patterns, leave usage, overtime, and workforce trends.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum of five years’ experience in Workforce Management, Payroll, or Time & Attendance roles.
  • Leadership experience in managing Time & Attendance or Payroll operations teams.
  • In-depth knowledge of Time & Attendance processes and payroll functions.
  • Strong familiarity with Australian industrial awards, enterprise agreements, and employment laws.
  • Experience using enterprise-level Time & Attendance software; familiarity with Deputy system is advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Proven leadership qualities and effective people management skills.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management capabilities.
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and report generation.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Payroll, Business, or a related field.
