Third-Party Quality Assurance Inspector – Tubular Goods & Offshore Equipment

Overview

This role involves acting as an independent quality assurance inspector representing the client operator, conducting thorough surveillance and audits at various supply and manufacturing facilities within the St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador region. The primary focus is to ensure stringent quality control of OCTG, drill pipe, drilling tools, and wellhead systems slated for offshore Newfoundland deployment. The inspector's aim is to guarantee equipment integrity and reliability, thereby reducing the risks associated with downhole or subsea failures in Atlantic Canada’s offshore projects.

Key Duties

• Monitor vendor adherence to DS-1 category specifications for high-risk offshore drill strings including auditing electromagnetic and ultrasonic inspection processes.
• Supervise wet fluorescent magnetic particle inspections on critical tool joints to detect fatigue cracks.
• Verify dimensional measurements such as tool joint diameters and wall thickness using calibrated instruments.
• Oversee refurbishment procedures including hardbanding applications and internal coating inspections.
• Ensure OCTG compliance with API 5CT and ISO 11960 standards through receipt inspections, UT wall thickness mapping, visual thread and seal assessments, drift testing, and hydrostatic test witnessing.
• Conduct specialized audits on premium proprietary connections including VAM, Tenaris, and Vallourec designs, validating thread profiles, torque application, and makeup quality.
• Perform local vendor surveillance within manufacturing plants and machine shops; observe Factory Acceptance Testing and evaluate inspection plans and quality controls before production.
• Inspect drilling tools and bottom hole assemblies ensuring structural compliance, corrosion protection, correct handling, and prepare full traceability documentation prior to final product release.

Technical Knowledge & Standards

• Familiarity with API 5CT for casing and tubing specifications.
• Comprehensive knowledge of TH Hill DS-1 volumes concerning drilling equipment and drill stem inspections.
• Proficiency with API 6A for wellhead and Christmas tree equipment.
• Understanding of API 7-1 / RP 7G-2 inspection frameworks for drill stem elements.
• Expertise in premium connection tolerance and inspection specifications for VAM, Tenaris, and Vallourec.

Preferred Experience & Qualifications

• Minimum of seven years experience in QA/QC inspection of tubular goods and drilling equipment intended for offshore use.
• ASNT Level II certifications or equivalent in MT, PT, UT, and VT methods are highly desirable.
• Knowledge of safety and logistics protocols at Newfoundland onshore vendor sites.
• Resident of or with reliable commuting capabilities to St. John's and adjacent industrial areas.
