Role overview
This position is based in a Tesco superstore in Braintree and is focused on bakery operations. It is a full-time, on-site store role with set availability across early morning shifts on Saturdays and Sundays.

Working pattern and pay
The role has an availability window on Saturday and Sunday from 03:00 to 12:00. Base pay starts at £13.28 per hour, rising to £14.55 per hour for stores in the M25. Extra location-based payments may also apply. New starters are normally offered a minimum of 16 guaranteed hours each week, though there is also scope for a minimum of 12 hours if preferred. Shift times are planned within the advertised availability window and are shared with 3 weeks' notice.
What the job involves
- Supporting customers with friendly, high-quality service and a positive attitude.
- Baking products in batches so fresh items are available through the day while keeping waste low and output on target.
- Handling bakery goods carefully so quality is preserved until they reach customers.
- Following food hygiene, safety, and allergen rules at all times.
- Building strong product knowledge for the department and the wider store.
- Applying training correctly so work is safe, effective, and customer-focused.
- Checking emergency stop controls and confirming machinery is safe before use, following safe and legal procedures and escalating issues to the Shift Leader or Team Manager.
- Disposing of waste responsibly and following food-waste and recycling routines.
- Understanding store performance targets and your role in improving service, sales, waste, shrink, and profit.
- Working in line with company values, policies, and an inclusive team culture.
- Helping across other store areas such as service, picking, and replenishment when needed.
