Job description
About the Role
At Reliance New Energy, we are committed to developing a cutting-edge clean energy ecosystem encompassing Solar, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), Green Hydrogen, Power Electronics, and Advanced Energy Solutions. Our mission centers on fast-tracking India's transition to a sustainable, energy-secure future by leveraging innovation, technology, and top-tier talent.
We seek enthusiastic professionals who thrive on solving complex problems, pioneering innovative solutions, and shaping the future landscape of energy.
Role Summary
The Techno-Commercial Strategist will take full ownership of the technological and commercial strategies behind renewable energy projects including Real-Time Correction (RE-RTC), Firm Dispatchable Renewable Energy (FDRE), and hybrid systems focused on BESS. This role is critical in defining technically sound configurations that satisfy RTC requirements and are commercially viable, thereby providing leadership with clear, defendable strategic decisions.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the techno-commercial strategy development: build cases, decide configurations, assess risks, price projects, and recommend final strategies; independently analyze options proposed by engineering teams.
- Collaborate on technical trade-offs: partner with engineering to balance solar, BESS, and wind capacities to meet availability and capacity utilization factor (CUF) targets while minimizing costs.
- Develop and rigorously test energy models utilizing industry-standard software such as HOMER and PLEXOS.
- Assess firming models for Solar RTC, FDRE, peak power, and firm supply alternatives; interpret availability requirements, penalties, off-take terms to translate into commercial assumptions.
- Maintain a solid understanding of financial parameters influencing decision-making including capital expenditure (capex), operational expenditure (opex), tariffs, internal rate of return (IRR), debt service coverage ratio (DSCR), CUF, degradation, and interest rate scenarios.
- Monitor grid regulations and policies including Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) connectivity, Grant of Network Access (GNA) rules, ISTS waivers, and tender frameworks from SECI and NTPC as well as relevant state-level policies impacting project analyses.
- Map competitor tactics and pricing to strategically position company bids.
Experience and Educational Requirements
- Approximately 12 years of experience in utility-scale solar, BESS, or hybrid power projects mainly on the owner, Independent Power Producer (IPP), or developer side.
- Proven track record in bidding and securing contracts for Solar RTC, FDRE, or other dispatchable renewable energy tenders.
- Direct responsibility for developing and owning techno-commercial bid positions, beyond merely supporting such processes.
- Deep expertise in solar and BESS technologies, plant design, and cost drivers for each configuration.
- Strong knowledge of energy modeling tools and financial modeling linked to project finance metrics.
- Working familiarity with CERC and Central Electricity Authority (CEA) regulations, ISTS connectivity requirements, and SECI/NTPC tender processes.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical or Energy preferred); Master's degree or MBA in Renewable Energy or related fields is a significant advantage.
Skills and Attributes
- Exceptional technical judgment able to confidently defend analyses before senior management.
- Proficient in balancing complex technical and financial perspectives simultaneously.
- Effective communicator who can simplify intricate RTC conditions for decision-makers.
- Steady and precise under tight deadlines.
