Job description
About the role
Te Kura Tuarua o Taraika ki Pukeahu (WHS) is guided by the values of Whānau, Excellence, Respect and Ora. The school is looking for applicants who are committed to strengthening Mātauranga Māori and who want to be part of the kura’s bicultural journey. This is a coeducational, non-uniform secondary school based on Pukeahu, with an expanding connection to Te Atiawa that supports access to the wider Te Whanganui-a-Tara community and its local curriculum opportunities.
Role overview
The school is seeking an experienced and well-qualified Teacher Aide to provide in-class support. This role is best suited to someone who can assist individual students within a busy mainstream classroom setting. A strong background in secondary education, teaching and learning processes, and support across subjects such as Science and Maths will be valuable. The successful person will help students engage with learning, respond to individual needs, and work closely with teachers.
What you will do
- Support individual students inside the classroom as part of the in-class support team.
- Assist students across a range of learning areas, including Science and Maths.
- Adapt support to meet different learning needs within a mainstream secondary classroom.
- Work alongside teachers to respond to student needs and strengthen learning outcomes.
- Build positive relationships quickly with students and staff.
Skills and attributes
The school is looking for someone who brings patience, a good sense of humour, flexibility, and the confidence to connect with students quickly. Experience supporting learners with additional needs is helpful, and prior work with students who have ADHD, specific learning needs, or autistic spectrum conditions would be an advantage.
Employment details
This is a permanent, term-time-only position for 28 hours per week. The start date will depend on the preferred candidate’s availability and the completion of police vetting checks.

Timeline for appointments
- Applications close: Thursday 25 June at 5pm.
- Interviews may take place before the closing date, but no appointment will be confirmed until after applications have closed.
