Job description
About the role
Oranga Tamariki is seeking a Talent & Vetting Administrator for a 12-month fixed-term assignment in Wellington. The role sits within the Talent Acquisition team and supports a period of higher workload, with a strong emphasis on periodic safety checks, checks for contingent workers, and other high-volume administrative tasks.
What you’ll do
- Work with internal staff to collect the information needed to complete periodic safety checks.
- Maintain records by tracking, entering, and updating information in internal systems.
- Use Microsoft Forms, Excel, and SAP HRIS on a daily basis.
- Handle recruitment and safety-check queries, triage requests, and organise pre-employment checks.
- Partner with the recruitment team to confirm candidates are appropriately vetted and reference checked for frontline roles.
- Manage multiple shared inboxes and complete a variety of incoming tasks.
- Arrange candidate interviews when required.
What you’ll bring
This opportunity is well suited to someone with administration experience who wants to build capability in recruitment and human resources. You’ll need to work quickly without losing accuracy, manage competing priorities, and handle a busy workload with confidence. Strong data handling skills, a careful approach, and the ability to support customers and stakeholders professionally are all important.
- Experience with pre-employment vetting such as Ministry of Justice checks or police vetting would be useful.
- Prior experience in a similar role is preferred, though full training will be provided.
- High attention to detail and the ability to produce accurate, quality work.
- Strong problem-solving ability with a customer-focused approach.
- Well-developed organisation skills, self-motivation, and the ability to juggle multiple tasks.
- Understanding of recruitment processes, privacy, and candidate care.
- Strong interpersonal and written communication skills, with the ability to work well with a broad range of people by email, in writing, and by phone.
- Intermediate Excel skills, including formulas, would be an advantage but are not required.
Why this role could be a great fit
You’ll gain experience in a new area while using your administrative and communication strengths to help keep tamariki and rangatahi safe in care. The organisation offers a supportive team environment, flexible working options, wellbeing focus, and an annual progression-based remuneration approach.
