Role overview

Jurong Port is seeking a Shift Stevedore to support safe and efficient lifting and cargo-handling activities in Singapore. The role centers on pre-operation checks, lifting support, signalling, and coordination with the relevant supervisors and teams to ensure work is executed safely and according to assigned scope.

Core duties

• Complete all required checks before lifting activities begin.
• Make sure the Rigger and Signalman hold the necessary MOM accreditation.
• Confirm that the correct personal protective equipment is worn and properly used.
• As a Rigger, verify that cargo is correctly rigged, secured, stable, and evenly balanced before the lift is carried out.
• Ensure cargo weight stays within the approved safe working load.
• Apply suitable padding to protect both the sling and the cargo from damage.
• Report any problems or defects in lifting equipment to the Foreman, SLO, or LS.
• Watch out for hazards and alert all personnel involved in the lifting operation.
• Set up tag lines where needed to help control the cargo.
• Immediately inform the Foreman, SLO, or LS if there are difficulties in loading or unloading cargo.
• Escalate any unclear or unsafe situation without delay if safety may be affected.
• Carry out lifting work strictly within the assigned job scope.
• As a Signalman, confirm with the Rigger that cargo has been properly rigged before directing the lift.
• Ensure everyone is clear of the line of fire before signalling the crane to move.
• Use the correct hand signals to guide the crane operator while moving cargo to its destination.
• Position yourself so the crane operator can clearly see your signals.
• Do not perform rigging and signalling at the same time.
• Report any difficulty in communicating signals to the crane operator to the Foreman, SLO, or LS immediately.
• Raise any doubtful or unsafe situation to the Foreman, SLO, or LS right away.
• Perform all duties according to the assigned operational scope.
• Assist with general administrative tasks when required.
• Coordinate with the JP SMC team on any administrative matters needed by JP SMC.

Requirements

• Must be accredited by MOM for both Rigger and Signalman roles.
• Must be able to follow safety procedures and work within lifting and cargo-handling guidelines.
• Should be attentive to hazards, communication, and operational discipline.
