Role overview
This position is based in Porirua and offers either part-time or full-time hours. The roster includes morning, afternoon, and sleepover shifts, and regular weekend availability is required. Pay ranges from $24.68 to $30.13 per hour, depending on relevant qualifications.
You will be supporting an adult male with complex behavioural needs as part of a team. The work focuses on helping him regulate emotions, remain safe, and make progress over time. This is a hands-on support role for someone who can stay steady under pressure, build trust, and contribute to meaningful change.
About the organisation
IDEA Services supports adults with intellectual disabilities so they can live in their own homes and be active members of their communities. The organisation is one of New Zealand's largest providers of support for people with intellectual disabilities and their families. Its approach is grounded in IHC's commitment to helping people with intellectual disabilities live good lives and be valued in their communities.
The IHC Group supports Te Tiriti o Waitangi and welcomes applicants from a wide range of backgrounds and lived experiences.
What you will do
As part of a wider team, you will provide practical and emotional support to help the person you support manage difficult moments, stay safe, and move forward. The role requires patience, resilience, and a positive, respectful attitude.
What you should bring
The employer is looking for someone who brings life experience, calm judgement, and the confidence to work with challenging behaviour. You should be physically capable, comfortable in pressure situations, and open-minded when working with people from diverse backgrounds. Daily use of computers and tablets is part of the job, so digital confidence is important. Strong written and spoken communication skills are also needed, along with a full New Zealand driver's licence.
Training and support
You will receive full training and be backed by a supportive team. The organisation also supports employees to work toward Level 2, Level 3, and Level 4 Certificates in Health and Wellbeing.
What’s on offer

- Long service leave benefits and insurance cover after 2 years of service.
- A referral bonus programme for recommending a friend.
- Free employee assistance support whenever you need help with health and wellbeing.
