Job description
About the role
We are seeking a resilient and caring Support Worker to join a team supporting people with complex behavioural needs in North Shore. This position suits someone who can stay calm under pressure, provide steady support during challenging moments, and help individuals build confidence, safety, and independence. Full training will be provided, along with strong team support.
The role is about being present for people when life feels difficult and helping them move forward in a positive way. If you bring composure, empathy, and a genuine desire to make a difference, this could be a meaningful opportunity.
Work pattern
- Both full-time and part-time options are available.
- You must be able to work the full range of rostered shifts, including days, evenings, and sleepover shifts.
- Regular weekend availability is required.
- You will need to work one weekend every fortnight, covering both days.
Key responsibilities
You will support people to develop practical skills, maintain daily routines, and participate in community life while ensuring dignity, respect, and safety. The work includes assisting with personal care, promoting healthy habits, and using positive behaviour approaches to respond to complex situations.
Tasks include
- Helping people strengthen everyday living skills such as using public transport and preparing meals.
- Assisting with personal care, dressing, medication, and keeping their home in order.
- Encouraging involvement in hobbies, interests, and personal goals.
- Supporting wellbeing through healthy choices that suit each person individually.
- Providing steady, calm support for complex behaviours using positive behaviour strategies.
- Building and maintaining connections with whānau, coworkers, and the broader community.
Requirements
- Some life experience and a positive attitude are important for this role.
- Experience supporting people with complex behavioural needs is helpful, though not required because full training will be provided.
- You must be available for rotating shifts, including days, evenings, sleepovers, and weekends.
- A calm manner and confidence when working with challenging behaviours are essential.
- You should be comfortable using computers and tablets on a daily basis.
- Strong written and spoken communication skills are needed.
- You must be physically fit enough to support community activities, daily walks, and gym programmes, and to remain safe in high-pressure situations.
- A full New Zealand driver licence is required.
What’s on offer
- Pay ranges from $24.68 to $30.13 per hour, depending on relevant qualifications, with the potential to earn more as you progress.
- Support to complete Levels 2, 3, and 4 Certificates in Health and Wellbeing.
- Generous long-service leave and insurance benefits after 2 years of service.
- A referral bonus programme for recommending a friend.
- Free employee assistance support whenever you need help with health and wellbeing.
