Job description

Role overview

This is a permanent, full-time support worker position based in Dunedin. The role involves working rostered shifts that may include mornings, afternoons, sleepovers, and weekends.

You will support people with intellectual disabilities to live meaningful, active lives in their homes and local communities. The job calls for initiative, empathy, and the ability to make everyday experiences positive, purposeful, and engaging.

Key responsibilities

  • Help people build everyday independence, including practical skills such as catching public transport and cooking meals.
  • Provide assistance with personal care and daily routines, including showering, dressing, and taking medication.
  • Encourage people to explore their interests, hobbies, passions, and personal goals.
  • Support healthy living and contribute to each person’s overall wellbeing.
  • Promote and maintain strong relationships with whānau and the wider community.

What you should bring

  • A caring, person-centred mindset with genuine respect for the dignity and wellbeing of the people you support.
  • Willingness and availability to work flexible shifts, including weekends and sleepovers.
  • Good written and spoken communication skills.
  • The physical capability to provide hands-on support when required.
  • A current full New Zealand driver licence.

  • Hourly pay between $24.68 and $30.13, depending on relevant qualifications, with the opportunity to increase earnings as qualifications are completed.
