Job description
Role overview
This is a senior operations leadership role within a 26-year-old, family-owned multifamily business. The Vice President of Operations will oversee community operations across the portfolio, with Property and Regional Managers reporting directly to this position. This role reports to the Owner and is only the second time the company has ever hired for it. The organization is expanding gradually at a pace of 500 to 1,000 units each year.
The company values people who care about delivering well-maintained homes and making sound decisions that support long-term business stability. In this position, you will have responsibility and authority over overall property performance.
Compensation and benefits
- Estimated base pay is $120,000 to $150,000 annually, with an additional performance-based bonus.
- There is a future possibility of gaining equity or ownership interest in the properties.
- A comprehensive benefits package is offered, including company-paid short-term disability, long-term disability, and life insurance, along with a retirement savings program.
- PTO is competitive and increases according to tenure with the company.
Key responsibilities
- Create, roll out, and review company-wide standard operating procedures.
- Develop strong, effective teams across the portfolio and support high performance.
- Evaluate, negotiate, and execute contracts at the property level.
- Oversee onsite due diligence for new acquisitions and assist with property sales when needed.
- Lead annual budgeting and forecasting, and provide weekly trend analysis, operating statement reviews, and performance reports to ownership.
- Plan, approve, and monitor both emergency and planned capital projects, with careful documentation, contract management, and timely delivery.
- Maintain a strict quality control program through recurring digital audits and regular physical inspections of sites.
Candidate profile
The ideal candidate has extensive leadership experience in property management or another fast-moving operations environment. Success in this role depends on the ability to build teams, communicate effectively in both directions, stay highly organized, and manage several priorities at once. Strong financial understanding is essential, especially the ability to interpret and manage P&Ls, build accurate annual budgets, control spending, and forecast future performance. Familiarity with AppFolio is considered a plus. A valid state-issued driver’s license and a clean, safe driving record are required.
Additional information
This position is focused on protecting asset quality, supporting residents and employees, and making disciplined business decisions that strengthen the portfolio over time.
