Job description

About the role

We are seeking a dependable, compassionate Support Worker to join a Supported Living team in the Counties area. In this position, you will help adults with intellectual disabilities live as independently as possible in their own homes, work toward personal goals, and grow confidence in day-to-day life.

This is a varied and meaningful role where every day can look different. You’ll be supporting people to live the life they want, while building respectful relationships and bringing empathy, creativity, and initiative to your work.

Location and work pattern

  • The Counties area covers Takanini, Papakura, and Pukekohe.
  • The role offers 60 to 70 hours per fortnight.
  • Shifts can differ in length and are rostered between 8:00am and 7:00pm.
  • You must be available to work every second weekend.
  • You will travel between clients within the area, and mileage will be paid back in line with company policy.

What the role involves

You will support people with a range of everyday and community-based needs, including personal care, household tasks, social participation, and goal-building. The role also involves helping people make informed choices, strengthen independence, and stay connected to the things that matter to them.

Key duties

  • Support with personal care, including showering, dressing, and medication assistance.
  • Help people build daily living skills such as cooking, cleaning, shopping, and managing money.
  • Encourage and maintain connections with family and friends, while supporting new social relationships.
  • Assist with participation in hobbies, sports, community events, and other activities.
  • Support people to look for work and understand the workplace.
  • Help access community services and manage wellbeing or social support needs.
  • Encourage positive decision-making and healthier, more independent ways of living.

What you will bring

While previous experience is useful, the most important qualities are the right attitude, life experience, and a genuine desire to support others. We are looking for someone who is positive, engaging, and able to motivate the people they support.

Skills and attributes

  • Ability to form respectful and trusting relationships.
  • Comfort working on your own and solving problems in changing situations.
  • Clear and simple communication skills.
  • Confidence using technology and completing written records.
  • Good physical fitness for an active support role.
  • A full New Zealand driver licence.

Pay and benefits

  • Hourly pay of $24.68 to $30.13, based on relevant qualifications.
  • Opportunity to increase earnings as you complete additional qualifications.
  • Support to complete Level 2, Level 3, and Level 4 Certificates in Health and Wellbeing.
  • Generous long service leave, plus insurance benefits after two years of service.
  • Refer-a-friend bonus programme.
  • Free Employee Assistance Programme offering confidential health and wellbeing support.
