Job description
Role overview
This position is based at HMP Bedford, Bedford, MK40 1HG. It is a support-level, task-focused post that involves carrying out routine day-to-day administrative and transactional work to help the establishment run effectively.
The role is non-operational and does not include line management duties. On joining, the successful candidate will be assigned to one of several support administration functions, and the post is rotational, so the duties may change over time across different areas.
Main duties
- Carry out administrative support in the assigned area.
- Keep filing and records systems accurate and up to date.
- Handle enquiries connected to the work area and pass them on when needed.

Essential criteria
You must be able to communicate confidently in spoken English, or Welsh where applicable in Wales, for all parts of the role.
Selection and assessment
Applications will be assessed through the Civil Service Success Profiles framework, with focus on behaviours and strengths. Security and eligibility
Shortlisted candidates must pass a criminal record check. Anyone working with government assets must also complete baseline personnel security standard checks. This vacancy is open to UK nationals only.
Terms and conditions
The advertised salary is £25,409, and HM Prison & Probation Service also contributes £7,360 towards membership of the Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension scheme. The employer contribution to the Civil Service pension is 28.97%.
