Overview
Tesla is seeking a motivated and strategic Supply Chain Manager to oversee Capital Equipment (CapEx) sourcing and execution. This role will manage procurement for tooling, equipment, and automated manufacturing lines by partnering with suppliers to drive cost efficiency and scalable manufacturing solutions aligned with Tesla's goals.
Primary Responsibilities
- Formulate and implement supplier CapEx strategies, including tooling, automation equipment, and integrated manufacturing systems to reduce costs and improve efficiencies.
- Lead sourcing processes for robotics, automated assembly cells, conveyors, vision systems, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), and turnkey manufacturing lines from initial concept to installation.
- Develop and nurture strong relationships with capital equipment and automation suppliers to ensure strategic alignment and long-term capacity needs are met.
- Execute cost reduction initiatives through skilled negotiation, managing RFQs, NDAs, terms and conditions, and pricing agreements related to equipment and tooling purchases.
- Coordinate cross-functional projects with teams such as Industrial Engineering, Automation, Controls, Finance, and Direct Supply Chain to oversee CapEx projects through specification, installation, and ensure adherence to budget and timeline.
- Perform comprehensive market research on equipment technologies, automation trends, and pricing benchmarks; proactively manage risks including lead time variation, supply chain disruptions, and price fluctuations.
- Leverage data analytics and KPIs to identify savings opportunities, monitor supplier performance for quality, delivery, and installation support, and provide actionable insights for stakeholders.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Master's degree in Engineering, Business Administration or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- A minimum of 3 years experience in supply chain management focusing on CapEx procurement of manufacturing equipment, tooling, or automation systems.
- Demonstrated success in achieving cost savings and enhancing supply chain efficiency for capital equipment.
- Solid understanding of manufacturing processes, automation technologies, and assembly line equipment.
- Strong negotiation and contract management abilities along with expertise in data analysis and financial modeling.
- Excellent communication skills enabling simultaneous management of multiple complex manufacturing equipment projects; prior experience within high-volume manufacturing industries preferred.
- Global perspective with experience working alongside international equipment and automation suppliers.

Compensation Details
The expected base salary ranges from $128,000 to $234,000 annually, complemented by cash and stock awards plus benefits. Pay is variable based on factors such as job location, experience, and skills. Additional compensation elements may apply depending on the offered position.
